Fifty Shades of Grey is easily seducing the North American box office, where it's poised to gross north of $26 million Friday for a historic $75 million to $85 million debut over the long Valentine's Day and Presidents Day weekend.
Universal's film adaptation of EL James' S&M-laced romance novel will easily best the $63.1 million launch of Valentine's Day in 2010 to tie up the best showing of all time for the holiday. The range of $75 million to $85 million indicates that no one is exactly sure how the movie will perform or how front-loaded it is since there are no precise comps.

What a great commentary on American society!

Tell someone they can’t have something, and they’ll do anything to get it.
Zero from me.
Not going to touch that...
If we want empirical evidence that feminism is pure BS this is it. The guys who runs those “Game” dating advice websites, treat women like dirt and they will flock to you, must be laughing their arses off.
What are “Game” dating advice websites?
Oh, sorry—just figured it out.
Didn’t we already see this movie? Wasn’t it called 9 and 1/2 Weeks?
From the article: “While women are expected to make up the vast majority of the Fifty Shades audience, it appears that many are convincing their partners to make the movie a Valentine’s Day destination.”
You’re entirely right. It is a sad commentary, because it’s so pathetic. I’m quite sure there is little in this movie that is much worse than what we’re inundated with every day anyway, even on prime time TV. Its actually kind of immature, along the same lines as third grade potty humor, and that’s where we’ve gone as a society. Our cultural depth is now measurable only with a microscope.
Regarding the comment from the article, I don’t even know what to say, and am way too tired to try to figure out what’s going on in the heads of a those I grew up believing were the more virtuous gender.

Let’s hope that is a result of banning children from pretending to shoot a gun by pointing their finger at someone and pulling an imaginary trigger. The NEA’s war on gun rights may “backfire” on them!
We’re going to the Sponge Bob movie.
That was what, 30 years ago?
Close enough. 29 years ago, and I’m still wondering how popular it would have been if they’d shown him making her clean up that kitchen floor.
This whole “50 Shades of Grey” thing has really got me to wonder about the nature of women. Do they really crave to be overtly dominated through bondage and masochist sadism? This might explain why so many women are drawn to vile men.
1) How does it do in follow-on weekends?
2) When will idiot “religious groups” get in through their heads that actively protesting films only increases interest in them?
baloney,salami,...???...wait wait,...OUCH,..WAIT..red blue green yellow,,???OUCH...mayonnaise,ketchup,mustard,cream cheese,goat cheese..????...OUCH!...HEY...
"I CAN'T REMEMBER THE SAFE WORD"
Hell i bet they bought most of their own tickets. Like that many people want to see perversion personified on screen. This is just bandwagon advertising techniques. Theiy’re full of it.
