China and Russia are taking their high tech relationship to the next level, as the preliminary design for their jumbo jet will be completed by July. The C929 will be China's ever largest civilian aircraft, and Russia's largest post Cold War new jetliner.

How about “Fly with us on Gog & Magog Airlines! Soon to dominate the world!”
The Chinese don’t have to steal, they’re already making a bunch of parts for Boeing planes, including the 787.
I’ve wondered how many passengers an Antonov An-225 could carry if so converted.
There was once a plan by Lockheed to produce a passenger version of the C-5 Galaxy; if it had gone through, it would have been called the L500.
Russia doesn’t need much help building airframes. Bent metal they can do; composites a bit more of a problem, but aerostructures they get.
It’s engines and avionics that they are weak on. Note the initial engines will be GE. The Chinese can make up the difference on avionics, although the software in this case is the real problem.
Not surprising they are going this direction. A third major airframe supplier was inevitable considering Boeing’s dominance at the moment.
Assuming all of Eastern Europe is not a smoking ruin by then due to all out war...
It’ll be falling out of the sky when it’s built!
Let me tell you, if it’s vodka and crab rangoon appetizers then sign me the f**k up.
Ni hao comrade! Stalinmao Airlines: “Our pilots are drunk and our airplanes crash after a month.”
Boy I’m hungry today. Skipped lunch and worked.
LOL! Lots of Sino-Soviet jokes here.
How about stewardessess? When Aeroflot instituted direct service to New York, they purposely selected homely Soviet women as flight attendants to prevent both hanky-panky & defections.
If Chinese, the stews will all look eerily alike.
Actually, Russia’s aviation industry is world class.
They use a mix of home-grown construction with Western engines.
Reliability and safety is better than during the Soviet Era.
You’d think that watching the 787 unfold the way it did would convince folks that building a commercial heavy is way harder than Boeing made it look. Even Mitsubishi couldn’t get their part of it right.
Who did they steal the blueprints from?
Well I still won’t ride an Antonov a Tupolev a Mig or anything else they make. Two thoughts: Quality of construction, quality of maintenance
Stolen? Both Russia and China have purchased Boeing and Airbus aircraft. They don’t need to steal it.
It’s called the Pooty Hu.
Oh yeah! Well, we got more Democrats on Social Security Disability because they wear a baby bonnet then they do.
But does Russia have any experience building really big aircraft?
Well, the AN 225 is the worlds largest airplane; but its Ukrainian, with Russian components. One reason why they still want Ukraine...
United Aircraft Corporation merges all the old Soviet design bureaus. This includes Tupolev - built TU160, worlds largest combat aircraft; Ilyushin with the IL96 commercial aircraft; also Yakovlev and Sukhoi with various military and civilian jets.
So yeah, with Tupolev and Ilyushin they have the experience. Can they make a quality product with long term support? We’ll see.
