MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Wisconsin grocery shoppers may soon be able to sample mini-shots of hard liquor in an aisle near them.

The Assembly’s government operations committee unanimously approved a bipartisan bill Tuesday that would allow retailers with liquor licenses to provide small shots of booze to their customers. The measure would allow shoppers to sample one half-ounce of hard alcohol, the equivalent of one-third a shot.

Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc, says he sponsored the bill to level the playing field for distilleries and other liquor producers as they compete with breweries and wineries, which can offer samples.

I wonder if they will be sampling some good single-malt.

I saw this in Arcadia, CA a couple of weeks ago. Cute young lady offering a taste of one semi-premium tequila. Told her I wasn’t much of a tequila drinker and she told me to come back the next day and have a taste of the brand of wine they were gonna offer. Yippee!

Happens every weekend here. Binnys Beverage frequently has some high end stuff to sample.

There is an Albertsons here in San Diego that does this occasionally. They rope off a small area and put up “must be 21 to enter” signs around the table.

It used to be common for wineries to offer samples for 25 cents, with the idea that tasting wines leads to buying bottles. They were right.

Joel Kleefisch is so munificent. One half ounce? Heaven forbid. Can’t people make decisions and act responsible with out a nanny state government controlling every move? Notice that Joel Kleefisch is working with distillers in this, while still controlling the liberties of individuals. Perhaps he doesn’t know that this is one of the defining qualities that makes fascism different from socialism.

Great. Alcohol that you can choke to death on. What could go wrong?

California does this already. I was surprised visiting my cousin one day and we went to get some liquor for a party. They had a nice big spread of samples.

It’s better than the bagels and coconut bars they normally hand out.

Giant Eagle in my area between Cleveland and Akron does this all the time. If it’s a wine sample I pass, as even a small amount gives me terrible headaches. But the hard stuff? I’m on!

Just goes to show how radical those pro-2nd Amendment folks are. This bill that promotes open shots in grocery stores, it merely a ‘back door’ way for anyone to be allowed to carry guns any where they want to.

Sorry for the late response, it’s the one on Waring Road in Allied Gardens. I’m not sure how often they do it, I have just noticed the pretty girls handing out samples on a couple of occasions.
