Never said MS or Google were some sort of conservative alternative, because they sure as heck aren’t.

It’s just people on FR that use Android and MS stuff don’t make a group show of their undying devotion and adulation to those companies as if we are part of some family and they are our best buddies.

Welcome to modern technology. It’s still developing fast enough that any device more than 3 years old is falling behind, and 5 years old is uselessly obsolete. EVERY technical industry went thru a similar curve since the Industrial Revolution.

They did, over Microsoft, Ford, and a host of other companies that “made it” during that point of their industry’s lifecycle.

"Not my point."

But it was _my_ point, and I started the thread.

Funny how you're avoiding answering the question. And yes, it would be relevant to discuss how one company likewise dominated their industry, destroying competition and grabbing nearly all profits in the process. Analyze away! (But if you're just going to be insulting for no good reason, head down to Room 12.)

Comparing the same quarter would help.

Apple’s first quarter ends 12/28, which is within a few days of the end of Samsung’s fourth quarter.

So why do you two spend so very much time hanging out on threads you don’t like about a subject you don’t like with people you don’t like? Masochistic much?

"It’s still developing fast enough that any device more than 3 years old is falling behind, and 5 years old is uselessly obsolete."

Understood, so why pay premium? I've got a dozen or so friends who have iphones and Samsungs etc. all buy that latest and greatest. I've asked them all what are the top5 things they use their phones for.

Averaged out it went something like 1. Texting and email 2. Phonecalls 3. pictures (includes apps for instagram etc.)4. internet (Includes apps for Facebook Pinterest etc.)5. Games 6 Apps other than games and most were not anything close to what I call productivity related.

Yet all claimed they "needed their expensive phones" and had to have the latest to "keep up"...

I am willing to bet that this trend is not a long term one. After awhile people will wonder why they keep going in debt for something that just does not last long enough to warrant doing so.

“I have never figured out why anyone would pay premium for something that has a shelf life of 2-3 years max then a new “better” version comes out.”

I saw plenty of skilled professionals paying a premium for HP hand held calculators, in the 1970s—when they were replacing desktop devices and sliderules.

HP made the high priced calculators for scientific and financial people.

At the same time, TI made versions for a fraction of the price, but many insisted on the HPs.

For example HP had a financial calculator called the HP 80.

TI had a Business Analysts for a fraction of the price.

Some might say that Apple devices are overpriced but I would happily pay double what they are charging now, even if the others cut their prices in half at the same time.

So if Apple was to charge $799 for an 64GB Iphone 6 with a two-year contract, I would still buy it, even if Samsung Galaxy went to $99 with a two-year contract.

It is because of this that Apple will make even more money, because they have room to raise their prices even more.

That's a good comparison. Even to this day, people will pay a premium for an HP scientific calculator, even though you can buy scientific calculators at the department store for next to nothing.

It's all about establishing a premium, top-shelf brand.

Btw

This data is very cherry picked and is just a snapshot time period of Apples iPhone 6 Release timeframe

It’s deceptive

But have fun

2014 market share was decidedly android

2015 is mighty early

It's interesting here to contemplate the radically different business models that Apple and Google have.

Google really has no interest in how profitable devices that run Android are. They simply want to capture market share and then collect data and sell advertising to the end users. That's where Google makes their profit. With respect to whether Samsung, HTC, Motorola, or whoever else makes these devices, makes profit, Google couldn't care less. Now Google does throw 30% of the App Store revenue their way (that Apple keeps for themselves) but that's just a few crumbs comparatively speaking.

On the other hand, Apple makes most of their profit on the sale of their devices. They are not concerned as much about market share but their per-unit margins.

Oh please

You only buy from a profit turner?

I doubt you’re that discretionary

A big part of Apples success is the cachet

The Brand

Coveted by young folks to be cool as well I said earlier

Its an understood accessory of hipsters and progressives in the US

And they can charge for it and certain people won’t have anything else

When I was a kid a BMW 2002 was the same sort of cool factor

I am mixed on the 6s

Most noticable is why so fragile....always

Apple is very much closed shop which can be a pain.

With Droids

The after market improvements stuff is vast and helpful

With Apple......Very provincial.

Less universal more exclusive which suits them and their market that will pay for it

If a droid needs it there is an app somewhere

iPhones not so much

After having a PC, pre-windows, mind you, I switched to Mac two years ago. It’s a better system. Period.

Everything works. it works in concert if you desire so.

It wouldn’t be cool if it didn’t work.

You’ve got it backwards: It works. So it’s cool.

They STILL make the HP 12C Financial model, which has long been sort of an industry standard, for commercial real estate.

Remember HP’s “reverse polish logic” for the inputs?

***Today there are Apple and Android apps, which do what those calculators did.

I’m saving my HP 12C and my TI Business Analyst II just for fun.

My point is it is only you apple fanboys who post these silly rah-rah threads to help you over your feelings of inferiority.

Those of us who understand technology find them simultaneously irritating and amusing (think arched eyebrow).

You don’t see people who wear Nikes posting about their aglets providers.
