Why no demographic information on immigration status?

Anyone with any disposable income is not going to subject their child to public school. That’s child abuse.

Obama had total, 100% control of the US Government for two years, and near total control for six years, and this problem wasn’t addressed?

There is so much wrong with how this is couched.

They don’t seem to understand that it is supposed to be a huge economic recovery. Those are the talking points of Obama’s success. So how at the same time can more than half of children live in poverty?

Doesn’t matter, it means more money is needed and Obama will just coincidentally be demanding higher taxes in the State of the Union Address.

Isn’t it so interesting how things the Washngton Post publishes coincide with whatever agenda Obama is pushing at the time.

To the extent there is truth in this, it is because there are more unmarried mothers than ever.

I wonder how many of these children in poverty show up to school with smart phones.

Yet another pile of redistribution of wealth programs.

Work your tail off, and pay for your lazy neighbors’ kids to go to public school, while you pay to send your kids to privates schools to keep them away from your lazy neighbors’ crude, low class kids.

If you receive more from the government then you put in, you are a bum. That includes public school costs, emergency services, and so on. Please have yourselves sterilized, and support your own d@mn spawn.

Do realize that non poverty students get offered free lunches. Maybe some take it. We have a surname that could be a million different ethnicities including Spanish. We have gotten free lunch packets but never taken it.

The unspoken premise is that government has the right to take from whomever it decides to rob so that it can support the children of someone else.

As usual, the Washington Post’s premise is faulty.

To tax me to support bastards whelped by sluts is both wrong and evil.

‘Nuff said.

The lunch program is a rough proxy for poverty ...
BS - it's a scam. Many school districts, especially urban ones, allow all students to participate, regardless of their family's income.

In Texas, the majority of public school children now are Hispanic, many of them illegal aliens or children of illegals. They are poor, have limited or no English skills, and drop out of school at 15 or 16. That is what Texas has to support because of a Supreme Court ruling in the ‘80s that border states had to pay to educate Mexican children (Plyler v. Doe, 1982). The curse of the Burger court Liberals has cost Texas billions and has basically ruined the school system.

Obviously the solution is to grant amnesty to illegal aliens and not just allow mass legal immigration to continue, but to greatly increase it! Just ask Jeb Bush, the WSJournal, chamber of commerce, Obama. or any professional ethnic grievance group.

The lunch program is a rough proxy for poverty

Except they keep expanding the free lunch (and breakfast and dinner) programs. Giving more free stuff to people doesn't mean there are more poor people... it means more people are getting free stuff. I do agree however that this sort of thinking WILL lead to more poverty in the long run since it makes more people dependent on handouts.

Public schools have become a de facto day care system for the poor, and anyone who can afford it sends his kids to private school. Many other factors contribute as well.
