A Pakistani father-of-six is on the run after strangling five of his children to death, apparently believing the sacrifice would endow him with magical powers including alchemy, police said Friday.

Ali Nawaz Leghari, 40, killed the two girls and three boys, aged between three and 13 overnight Thursday in the village of Saeed Khan, 230 kilometres (140 miles) north of the city of Karachi.

"The man's financial condition was bad but he was also learning black magic and it seems that he made the sacrifice to excel in the craft," police officer Qamaruddin Rahimo told AFP.

Rahimo said that on Tuesday Leghari had attempted to poison the family's dinner but was spotted by his wife, resulting in a bitter quarrel.

Generally, across all societies....I’d say that one percent can’t handle reality, religion, or civilization. And at the pace of things, we just can’t put enough of them in the ground, six feet under, fast enough.

no this one sounds like a garden variety Waco...I can see it happening in this country. I think this is more a case of mental illness rather then religious brain washing

She must have been as demon-possessed as the father. Poor kids.

Sometimes an atrocity is just the result of insanity, which is present in all cultures.

You reckon dad and mom are both insane? Seems all she did was leave her kids for the slaughter.

I’m not so sure - the Gulf oil states regularly imprison and execute people for witchcraft and black magic. Islam may not be solely responsible, but it’s damn sure a contributing factor.

Drinks from the same trough as global warming conjurers.

This sounds like the Paki version of "A good boy who made a few mistakes but was trying to turn his life around at Community College."

If he’d told the authorities it was an “honor killing” he’d get probation plus time served.

When ya believe in pedophiles on flying horses, you’ll believe anything.

I think honor killings are OK.
But the Moslems should be obliged to do it the Japanese way.

If you feel your honor is so besmirched that you can't live with the shame, then you disembowel yourself.

“...Black magic practices are rooted in mystic Sufi lore and have traditionally been the domain of pirs and aamils (sorcerers)....”
******************************************************************************************************
Sufism is a part of Islam. While this man’s vile act may be partially attributable to mental illness, it also has a basis in Islam.

Japanese honor killings are more honorable.

I don’t think that the Muslim religion understands honor. because I find nothing honorable in killing a family member because you believe you have failed in your role as a parent

most suffis are mystics and don't practice Black magic. how is voodoo or Santeria any different when a mentally ill person starts to practice it...... I hate The Muslim religion but if something looks like mental illness I will consider that the main cause first. there is enough evil in the Muslim religion with out including what is probably a deluded skits frenetic.
