The wife of a Georgia police chief is in critical condition after her husband shot her in the bedroom of their suburban Atlanta home just hours into the new year.
Peachtree City Police responded to the home of Chief William McCollom at approximately 4:17 a.m. ET, Lt. Mark Brown said in a news conference. McCollom called 911 saying he accidentally shot his wife, Margaret McCollom, with his service weapon, according to Sherry Lang, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman. The victim was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center after officers arrived, according to Brown.

He thought he shot her twice, but investigators said he only shot her once.

Unless there is much circumstantial evidence not yet reported such as big debts, insurance policy on the wife, girlfriend etc, the best the prosecutor will get is a hung jury.

According to your article, she’s not dead, therefore she can testify if this was a legit accident or not.
No, Glock pistols don't have safeties; when 4 pounds of pressure touches that trigger, it fires.
I once knew a guy who kept his Glock 17 on the nightstand when he slept. One night a noise woke him, he grabbed his Glock, grabbed it the wrong way and shot himself.
I suspect something similar happened to the Chief.
