"It doesnt have a safety?" No, Glock pistols don't have safeties; when 4 pounds of pressure touches that trigger, it fires.
I once knew a guy who kept his Glock 17 on the nightstand when he slept. One night a noise woke him, he grabbed his Glock, grabbed it the wrong way and shot himself.
I suspect something similar happened to the Chief.

5.5 lb. factory standard, ain’t it? I keep a Springfield XDS .45 on my nightstand. It has a grip safety, and no chambered round.

Yes Glocks have a "Safety" but it's a crappy (IMO) one.
