No, Glock pistols don't have safeties; when 4 pounds of pressure touches that trigger, it fires.

I once knew a guy who kept his Glock 17 on the nightstand when he slept. One night a noise woke him, he grabbed his Glock, grabbed it the wrong way and shot himself.

I suspect something similar happened to the Chief.
