Ugh. Pass. Thanks for the warning.
Just imagine the folly that will be the observatory atop the Freedom Tower!
Wow!! Thanks for the warning. I was there with my son in 1991. Nothing like that then. If I ever visit NYC again, I will skip the Empire State Building. I always loved going to the Statue of Liberty. I hate to think what that is like now.
Well written and entertaining. You should submit that to a travel magazine or website.
Why people choose to live in an anthill is a mystery.
Sorry, but not surprised, to hear about this. The view from the deck at 30 Rockefeller Center (I know, it’s NBC) is quite good, without nearly the hassle, for those of you who may be planning a visit - at least that was my experience, in 2012.
Wow. Any chance this is because it was Christmas week and you hit at the ‘peak’ at 3pm?
Definitely not the quaint ‘Affair to Remember’ affair...
I took my first and last trip to NYC in 1975. You just reminded me that our family went up to the observation deck. I don’t recall any lines or crowds. There was a Japanese man on the deck who approached me with his camera and a big smile and wanted me to take his picture. Sure. He was very happy and posed then his face turned to stone. Smile, says I. Nope, stone faced. I took the picture and his huge smile returned as he thanked me.
I personally can’t understand why anyone would go to any city for tourism.
Sorry to read that it’s deteriorated so badly. Not that you’ll go again any too soon, but it’s probably best not to go during any holiday or tourist period.
Thanks! I’d probably have to remove my Ronald Reagan and Ayn Rand references to get them to print it though.
If I want to spend a lot of money to endure an unpleasant experience, I’ll go to the dentist’s.
I made my only ascent of the ESB in 1978 (as well as doing the lunch buffet for $50 at the Windows on the World in the WTC). Our small group made it up to the highest floor/room/chamber of the ESB. It was exciting but stressful. Is that level still accessible to the public? Was that to be the entry/departure gate for the airship service that was originally envisioned?
Huh? What was it during your '80s visit?
+1......wifey hinted that she’d like to visit D.C. - but only once, given my “reaction”.
... very happy and posed then his face turned to stone. Smile, says I. Nope, stone faced.
Thats a cultural thing. When they talk about losing face this is part of it.
Drop me just about anywhere in Michigan’s upper peninsula and I’ll never want to leave.
