Less than half (46%) of U.S. kids younger than 18 years of age are living in a home with two married heterosexual parents in their first marriage. This is a marked change from 1960, when 73% of children fit this description, and 1980, when 61% did, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of recently-released American Community Survey (ACS) and Decennial Census data.
Rapid changes in American family structure have altered the image of whos gathering for the holidays. While the old ideal involved couples marrying young, then starting a family, and staying married till death do they part, the family has become more complex, and less traditional.
Americans are delaying marriage, and more may be foregoing the institution altogether. At the same time, the share of children born outside of marriage now stands at 41%, up from just 5% in 1960. While debate continues as to whether divorce rates have been rising or falling in recent decades, its clear that in the longer term, the share of people who have been previously married is rising, as is remarriage.

And yet the big news in courts and media is that homosexuals should be permitted to marry members of the same sex. Apparently because there is still some sanctity of marriage that must be tainted and subverted.
Human social patterns have historically been self-correcting, given some time.
But nowadays, all the experts and academics look at the disaster of the modern American family and say, "This is great. This is modern, This is diverse. It's never been better. Keep going -- more, more, more."
If human social patterns are historically self-correcting, how does one explain Islam?
Considering that the definition of a traditional family is constantly changing, these numbers will soon change.
The devil has a hand in that one.
No, there’s only one definition of a traditional family. All other redefinitions are lies.
Just like in the case mentioned here.
To you and me perhaps, but many in the public schools are getting a different message ... reinforced by most of the TV programs they watch. Even the courts are beginning to push the all inclusive definition of traditional marriage. Soon, anything and everything will be acceptable as traditional marriage ...
We watched the new stinker movie “The Interview” last night. I was totally taken aback and disgusted by the blatant promotion of homosexuality. Turned the trash off about one-third through when it got really bad. I don’t watch network TV, but if this movie is any indication, our society is a goner.
What about second marriages where the first spouse died? I think it would only slightly fall in the non-traditional category if they go back and forth between homes.
In other wards — they are not being raised in a family.
Can’t push things that far before they break.
One can but hope
Well, ya know, when people can vote other people’s money to compensate...and get priority when they do so for being irresponsible...that the consequences are much less clear, and the self-correcting far more muddled.
“Young men who grow up in homes without fathers are twice as likely to end up in jail as those who come from traditional two-parent families...those boys whose fathers were absent from the household had double the odds of being incarcerated — even when other factors such as race, income, parent education and urban residence were held constant.” (Cynthia Harper of the University of Pennsylvania and Sara S. McLanahan of Princeton University cited in “Father Absence and Youth Incarceration.” Journal of Research on Adolescence 14 (September 2004): 369-397.)
That was 10 years ago. I am sure the numbers have only gotten worse as the marriage rate drops.
“Americans are delaying marriage, and more may be foregoing the institution altogether”
Is the marriage rate going down?
Depends on what you mean by “marriage rate”.
And the libs will continue saying it’s all good while we destroy our own civilization. Liberals are inherently suicidal.
