A man was killed in a Christmas Eve shooting inside the crowded Oakwood Center mall, and a suspect has been arrested, the Jefferson Parish sheriff said.
Sheriff Newell Normand said the shooting occurred about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 24) at the Footlocker shoe store.
The victim, identified by authorities as 24-year-old Harvey resident James Vaughn, had just made a purchase when a gunman walked up and opened fire from about three feet away, Normand said. At least three shots were fired, he said.
The gunman ran, but a suspect was taken into custody several blocks away from the mall after a chase, Normand said. That suspect has been identified by JPSO as 25-year-old Gary M. Francois, of Marrero.
There were no other injuries and no other shooters, the sheriff said. He said investigators are trying to determine the motive.

WELL at least the poor little thug was not murdered by a stinking policeman like all those other poor little thugs were. This one at least has a chance for the ACLU to get him off on a technicality because he does not know who his daddy was and mamma had 14 boyfriends shacking up with her while little thug was skipping the 4th grade for 7 straight years.
Charles, am never surprised when finding murders are because of man worshipping ‘things’ and man’s avoidance of what should be worshipped. There is a FReeper with a tagline that says much of today (imho) .... How often God Must Weep at Man’s Folly. Would ping that FReeper, if knew nick ... my apology to that FReeper for not recalling nick. Is a timely tagline by that FReeper (imho).
The shooter was older than I expected. The sheriff said the shooter was waiting for some time for the victim to come out of the store. It was some kind of payback.

Owkwood is bad news. I used to go there when news a kid and not long after that a childhood friend of mine who was working for JPSO shot a suspect in the parking lot.
Read the article and viewed the video several times ... yet to determine if the victim was black or other.
This is the same oakwood mall, that was looted and burned, the first night after hurricane katrina hit new orleans. As i sat listening to a local radio station, it was broadcasting the fire and looting in progress. Terrytown is on the ‘west bank’, on the other end of the Crescent Conection bridge.
From a recent article in the Houston chronicle, I believe the correct term for the rioters is “air jordon shoppers.”
No ACLU required as I understand it, “Shooting Into Occupied Clothing” is a Class C misdemeanor in NOLA...
