SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) A viral video shot outside a San Francisco restaurant may have people thinking twice about eating out.
The video shot outside Lucky River, a Chinese restaurant in the citys Sunnyside neighborhood appears to show a worker slamming slabs of frozen meat on the sidewalk.
KPIX showed the video to residents near the restaurant.
Thats horrible, said Steve Vender.
The sidewalks have never been cleaned, said London Lacey.
As to why anyone would be pounding the sidewalk with frozen slabs of meat, an inspector from the San Francisco Health Department paid a visit to Lucky River and said the worker was trying to defrost the meat.
KPIX checked out the exact portion of the sidewalk seen in the video and found it covered in blackened gum, cigarette butts, and foot-tracked bacteria of all gut-twisting varieties.
The owner of the restaurant told KPIX it was an isolated incident and that the meat was discarded and the cook has since been fired.
Its highly unsanitary, I dont know how theyre gonna clean the meat off after that. Theyre gonna wash it but it certainly doesnt look very appealing, said Vender.
The last surprise health inspection of Lucky River earned it a score of 88, or adequate, with violations ranging from poor ventilation to improper food storage.
Yelp reviewers were less generous, with one mentioned there was a boiled caterpillar in the greens. Yup. They boiled a caterpillar, Extra protein I guess, they wrote.
I wont eat there again, said Lacey. I will not eat there at all.
KPIX is still waiting to receive a copy of the latest health inspection on July 30 from the San Francisco Public Health department, as well a copy of the report on this latest incident.
The restaurant remained open despite the video.
On a related note.....Hundreds of local cats have disappeared.................film at 11............
The sidewalks have never been cleaned,
so if they were to be cleaned, it’s ok? Only in SF
I ate in a very local Chinese restaurant in San Fran once. I had a nice soup with some type of fowl. When I asked what type it was, their English was so spotty they had to take me outside to point to the pigeons on the wires.....
So kinda like putting walnuts in the driveway to get the meaty husks off of them.
It’s a cultural thing.
LOL Lucky River restaurant.
You no die of poison? You rucky huh?
The meat was frozen solid.
When I was a teen back in the late 60’s early 70’s, I was a janitor at a restaurant. One of my jobs was to clean the sidewalks and curbs with tri-sodium phosphate and a high pressure hot water hose..............you could literally eat off them when I was through........
Wonder if he still has a job?
Thawing it out!................
Ping.
COOK: OhHHH!............You say THROW OUT MEAT, not THAW OUT MEAT?................
In SF, “Tenderizing Meat” has a whole different meaning.
Talk about “local flavor.”
Especially in the ‘Tenderlion District’...............
Fact of the matter is we’ve all unknowingly eaten things that would turn our guts if we knew their pedigree.
What the guy is banging on the (fairly) clean sidewalk is, in fact, the innards of some animal.
Objectively, which one is more gross?
I will only eat meat in a Chinese place if it has been sidewalked. Otherwise, it is too tough.
poor doggie
oh, wrong video...
