Patty Glaser, the lawyer for Rush Limbaugh, said that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's attempts to fundraise off of Limbaugh's comments on sexual assault were "unforgivable" in an appearance on Monday's "Hannity" on the Fox News Channel.
Glaser called the DCCC's fundraising "just unforgivable, and it's black and white. There needs to be no hyperbole, there needs to be no stretching. Rush's comments were deliberately taken out of context for apparently political reasons by people who should know better. This was not an irresponsible blogger. This was a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee made up of people that we've elected to Congress. Shame on them."

Yep, $50 million minimum. Then Rush can turn around and rub sand in their eyes by donating it to pro-life and Tea Party groups.
The DCCC heads must be exploding as their lawyers tell them to apologize to Rush or face trial.
The only thing that really works is money. Sue for money andn donate it. Lots of money. that is what changes behavior.
An apology costs nothing. Their side feels justified and the other side gets nothing changed
They have pushed further and further into completely making crap up in the last few years, and I would not be surprised if Rush recognized this and set a trap for them, waiting for the most clear cut case to push forward on legally.
Given Rush's proven market worth, a defamation case could easily run into the tens if not hundreds of millions.
Rush is going to let this play out, and simmer in some court. Some big-wig guy for the Democrats will eat up tens of thousands of their funding, then finally tell them that there is no way out and pay Rush’s legal costs, apologize, and donate $10k to some charity. Rush will eat up half-a-million of their legal funds in lawyer work....then take the signed copy of the apology to read off the air once or twice a month. Basically, they screwed up in a marginal way....with legal costs to eat them up.
Sue them into a new stone age. Take everything possible.

Not necessarily. Rush is playing with some fire here, but I am sure he is aware of the risks. In a defamation case, you put your entire reputation and character at issue, and that allows the other side to take your deposition and get into all kinds of personal issues. There are limits, but they are pretty broad, and how far afield a lawyer could go in discovery would depend on the judge handling the case. For this reason, it is rare that people sue on these kind of slanders, even when they are false.
A broadly distributed retraction will be more damaging to the left than the $50mil they are going to pay Rush and the $20mil they are going to pay the lawyers to get it down that low.
I’m not big on defamation lawsuits. Seems to me there are used as a means to shut free speech.
It’s out there now, Rush rushed in whaling about legal consequences, if he doesn’t hold their feet to the fire it is an invitation to do more in the future, it is time to Put Up or Shut Up, file the Suit.
