In my grandson's words:

School Board members talked to the Sr class and after all was said and done they wanted a q&a so I stand up and say this: "This is A#$^ H&!@$!@%& and this question is for all the School Board: Why is it required we know how to find triangles angels legs etc 50 different ways but it's not required to teach us about taxes (whole sr class yells in agreement) so after things settle down A bit the school board members attempt to answer my question yet avoid it and tell me to talk to the of EVSC to email him about this subject that was the high light of my day!

Well, it could be an angel reciting... or showing off the location of special golden tablets.

Nah. Angels aren't Al'gebra.

It took me more than a moment to recognize the issue.

I figured it was some new Common Core thing or something that had changed in the last 50 years.

Another good question would be to ask how the education offered to date would help pay off the loans the gov't has taken out to saddle the graduates with.

Kids don’t need to learn about taxes, they don’t pay them. They need to learn math. Math education is the key to success. Everything we do is based on math. Geometry teaches deductive reasoning in a way that nothing else can, with pictures.

I wish that I had emphasized math more with my own kids. I also wish that I had instilled the same sense of competition in education that my husband instilled in sports.

Schools no longer teach you to be a good person, a healthy person, or a competent citizen able to handle your life-affairs (taxes included).

The more we spend on education, schools, and teachers, the lower we sink in the world-wide education ratings.

I thank the democrats and teachers unions.

Pardon me but my grandson works as a stock boy so he does pay taxes. He is also a High School senior soon to go out into the world.

I would suspect that his granny didn’t want to put the child’s full name but it would appear his first name begins with an A and is four letters long, and the last name begins with an H and is eight letters long!

Lots of children have to pay taxes including my grandson who has a trust fund with stock investments and a small business since the age of twelve.

IMO every junior and senior in high school should take a class in living skill training where they would learn about bank accounts, taxes, budgeting, purchasing/leasing a car, investing, determining cost of goods sold, comparison shopping, renting/buying a home, insurance, interest rates, credit cards, government borrowing, etc. It can incorporate all kinds of math as well as information on the financial structure of our government and will give them some practical application knowledge.
