Even though the van used to transport the groceries from the store to the race track was jam packed with supplies, the $3,742.10 only covered food for three days. Freeman says that is just a fraction of the total cost the Sahara Force India team will spend throughout their time in Austin.
We normally spend about 10,000 pounds per race thats about $16,000, said Freeman.
Over the course of eight days, Chef Freeman and his kitchen crew of six people will prepare three meals-a-day for more than 100 people. That includes mechanical crews, drivers and their guests.
We couldnt ship anything here to the U.S., so we had to start from scratch, said Freeman.

With the price of food today, 16K isnt as much as it sounds.
These teams have big budgets. The amount of cash in play at these races is amazing.
Of course I didn't read the thread...

8 days of avoiding any trips into Austin.
Actually, yes, for 3 meals per day for over 100 people for 8 days, and considering that they didn’t have anything to start with (pantry goods, seasonings, basics like flour, sugar, oil, etc.). They will save thousands over having the food catered in.
Trying to curry favor
I am sure that the taxpayers will be paying for it somehow.
how much tax subsidy do they get from the state for this race?
This is pocket change compared to the rest of their budget. I can’t remember who it was but someone was once asked why he sponsored a race team. He replied that he had tried burning the money in his back yard but couldn’t do it fast enough.
Eight days by three meals a day by 100 people, that's a total of 2400 meals. For $16K that's pretty good.
How many dozen eggs and pounds of bacon I wonder....
Probably none, but thats only a guess
Sahara Force India is also one of the smaller teams on the F1 grid..i venture to say Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren spending a lot more than that...
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ of money changes pockets.
Need to recalulate my previous post to $20/head. I caught the updated version of the story in the post but didn’t see the number of days dropped from 9 days of food to 8 days. Still a relatively small budget.
In case you’re wondering why all of the supermarkets in Austin are sold out of cardamom and basmati rice...
I was a fan of F1 back in the 60s and early 70s, but now it has become an obscenely expensive cult and a player in the New World Order where EVERYTTHING is based on $$$$$$$$$$$$.
Food? I missed that part, I thought it was for beer! I guess ya gotta have some food too.
Only for the teams that lose.
And I’ll bet they didn’t shop at WalMart ;)
The average annual budget is around $200 million/yr according to my son who lives and breathes F1.
