No single experience had a greater influence on my path in life than that of seeing this movie when it first came out, in 1968, as an eighth-grader.

How does one make a pen float in the air? One sticks it to a pane of glass.

Saw it with my cub scout pack. No claymation monsters so it bored the h*ll out of me.

Haven't seen it since. It'll be interesting to see how it looks to me now.

It will always be a goal standard.

The last movie I saw in the theater was “Lawrence of Arabia” (1999, Egyptian Theater in Hollywood).

This will be the next one.

I clearly remember seeing it in 70mm Cinerama, and being just blown away. The digital restoration is fine, but they’d better not disturb so much as one of Kubrick’s pixels!

I can’t believe I saw the same movie as everyone else.

Other than “The Andromeda Strain”, I thought “2001” was the most over rated movie ever.

"Here's the trailer..."

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

It came out during my senior year in high school and our Aerospace Science class took a field trip to see it at the Cinerama in Seattle. It still holds up today.

Big screen is the way to go for this movie.

IMAX would be mind blowing.

Thanks for posting; I was about 15 years old when I saw this movie in the theater, and had been fascinated by the “space race”. Used to sit in the kitchen by the window at night, reading my book about the solar system.

(By the way, does anyone remember the ‘Mushroom Planet’ books by Eleanor Cameron? My absolute favorites as a young kid...)

Can you name the two businesses in 2001 that did not make it to 2001?

I liked the book much better than the movie.

The special effects of the movie were phenomenal, but if I hadn’t read the book first, the movie would not have made as much sense as it did.

What exactly was "ungorgeous" about the original?

I remember seeing it on a superwide and tall screen and it was spectacular. The original. In 1968.

A 45 year old scifi movie that STILL holds up! And the tech predictions were fairly accurate.
