James Wathen, 73, is a terminally-ill patient at Baptist Health Corbin in Corbin, Kentucky. His body frail and spirit weak, hospital staff were having difficulty improving Wathen's condition. But Wathen whispered that he was missing his beloved one-eyed-Chihuahua named Bubba, the nurses leant forth their greatest efforts to reunite Wathen with his dog.
Nurses traced Bubba's trail to the Knox-Whitley animal shelter, where they learned that the dog had been placed with a foster family after Wathen was admitted to the hospital. Bubba too had been showing similar signs of emotional grief after being separated from his owner. On Saturday, October 11, the nurses finally were able to reunite Wathen and Bubba. Wathen began to perk up, and was emotionally lifted as he pet and played with his dog.
The visit has seemed to do wonders for Wathen. Nurses reported the next day that the patient seemed like an entirely new person, eating and sitting up when he wasn't prior to the visit.

Ah that brings tears to my eyes.
There is nothing better on this earth than dogs.
Stories like this shine a little light into the dark view I have of humanity of late. Bless those nurses!
Damn blurry screen.
Why can’t Alienware fix this obvious LED defect?
[if you wanted to kill me, this is how you’d do it...take away my dogs]
God bless those nurses.
Dogs heal.
Snerf, makes me all watery-eyed. My hubby (passed now) LOVED his doggies.
Several of the adopted German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County’s dogs are now hospital and nursing home therapy dogs
Amen to that!
Wonderful story, wonderful pictures. Thank you.
So sweet!
Thanks!
I belong to a group of volunteers who bring our dogs to see people like him who are wasting away in a place with no dogs. Petting a sweet dogs does wonders for some of them.
Isn’t that the truth!
Thanks for posting this.
Our dog Corky, a 6-month old Rottweiler-Retriever mix, brings joy to our lives daily with his companionship, loyalty and antics. There is nothing like a good dog to cheer you up. He, along with our cat, George, his best friend, are family.
Bless the Lord for giving us pets to care for and they, in turn, to care for us.
Those are wonderful nurses!
I am so glad the man and his dog were reunited. But, where is the dog staying? In the nursing home? Not that I am against the idea but how hard it would be to lose the dog a 2nd time. I hope they planned beyond the initial reuniting.
In the article if you keep scrolling, the dog is with a foster family and because of the owner’s improvement the place he is staying at is changing their policy allowing him to have future visits. Always good to read the article if an excerpt.
Thank you thank you got this lovely post.
Thank you Bump.
