I don’t think we ever can be prepared for such a day.
Besides my horse Jack, I also had to euthanize my dog Bart the day after Easter this year. He had a fast growing bone cancer. He had to be put out of his pain only a month after the tumor appeared. It soon grew to the size of my fist. It was in a rear leg joint. He was almost 8. He was a Doberman, and a sweet boy who loved everyone. He wiggled with delight to meet visitors to our farm. The moments of our parting were excruciating as I sat with him on a dog bed at the vet, with his favorite blanket all around him and me soothing him and saying a tearful goodbye. I have not been able to bury his ashes yet. His collar, tags, picture and the nice wood box with nameplate they gave us, still sit next to my favorite chair.
I understand when people say they can’t have another pet after losing an especially great one. We however, tend to adopt from a rescue when we lose a dog. We did that a week after Bart was gone.
It does help some, to be busy with a new and sometimes “special” rescue dog. Our new rescue dog was 8 months old when we got him and was turned in to the Doberman rescue because the owners no longer could deal with a young Doberman. He is now 13 months and much better but still needs a lot of supervision. I expect I will cry buckets of tears someday when he goes too.
I liked your stories about Click. Reminds me a lot of the special intelligence my horse Jack exhibited. It’s like they can almost talk.

Swiss cats should rise up in rebellion against this!
If the Swiss kitties are as heavily armed as the Swiss people, the tree-huggers don’t stand a chance.
Have you read the book HOW TO TELL IF YOUR CAT IS PLOTTING TO KILL YOU? Very funny book. I have two cats that I'm very fond of, but sometimes I do wonder if they look at me as food rather than just a food provider.
It’s like living with a quadriplegic serial killer roommate, sometimes something passes across the eyes that reminds you that you are not truly the same.
wow, a cat that can take on a blue jay is a pretty bad-*ssed kitty.
That’s true!!
