Pontiac car Commercial II Classic 1969
Sweet rides...
I had a '69 Cougar. Sweet ride. Loved those peek-a-boo headlights and the sequential rear turn signals.
Then there was Mustang, Javelin, Thunderbird and so many more.
I always wondered how reliable were these old cars? I know late 70s to 2000 was bad but were American cars previous to that reliable?
Agnes Moorehead riding on the trunklid of a ‘65 Chevy II is pretty cool. The cast of Bonanza, Bewitched and Man From U.N.C.L.E. introduce the entire Chevrolet line:

I wish I had my ‘68 Barracuda back. (sigh)
They were always having to have the carburetor, points and plugs looked at, and they overheated in hot weather far more often than modern cars. But, you could work on all of that yourself in your own garage or under a shade tree. What went wrong more frequent but more minor then. Pollution controls beginning in the early ‘70s changed all that.
That was great!
wish I could go back in time and hit Elizabeth Montgomery.
What a babe...
See post #6. Some were terrible. My ‘Cuda was really nothing more than a streamlined Valiant, one of the icons of dependability in that era. It had a 318 V8 that very reliable and was actually made for bigger cars and trucks. Pushed a compact car around very well.
I had a 67 Cougar that I bought from an uncle. Wife didn’t like it at all. I didn’t get to enjoy it much. All the hydraulics in the brakes were gone. Anytime I tried to anything with it, something more important came up.
I miss the car. I’d like to lay my hands on another one.
My dad bought my mom a ‘69 Firebird. What a neat ride!
I am still driving a 78 4x4 pickup. And I am looking pretty hard for a 65 or 69 Chevelle, or maybe a Goat to restore and drive.
Simple systems. Easy to fix. Very reliable.
I had a 1968 Charger, and made deliveries in NYC with a Dodge van, both 318 powered with Torqueflites. Those engines and transmissions were virtually indestructible. My dad made the mistake of buying a Chevy Vega at that time. Even though my Charger used twice as much gas, it was actually cheaper to drive because the Vega was such an unreliable a** bucket.
I had a 68 Cougar, 390, Yelow & black. Beat 68 Ford GTA’s backwords and forwards. Only car I ever owned better, was a 64 Ford Fairlane Sport Coupe with a 289 auto and 3/ 2’s. Good Lord those were the days!! VN kept me from getting killed.
The ‘68 Charger is still one of the best looking cars ever made. When I was 17 I took a hunting trip out west with my father and his buddy who had one with a 440 and the tall rear gears. We cruised at 100-110 most of the time and it just purred along. Hog heaven for a young man!
Yeah...I think of my Cougar very often. 350cu Windsor, leather interior...fast car...sexy looking. Probably worth a bundle these days in mint condition.
I replaced the spring with a stainless steel one after that.
I had a 1965 Pontiac Catalina. Great car.
I had either a 67 - 69 Cougar (don't remember what year) that I purchased from my parents in 1972 when I got out of the Army.
I sold it in 1974 after the passenger side floorboard rusted out and the passenger could watch the highway thru it as we drove along......LOL!
An eliminator version? Bet it was something to drive.
