A Welsh nurse has been forced to wait for potentially life-saving treatment after local health bosses refused to fund her care in England.
Beth Prout, from Pembroke, West Wales, has been diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer.
There are two hospitals in the UK able to provide the treatment the 57-year-old needs.
But NHS chiefs in Wales have refused to cover the cost of sending her to England for therapy.
A hospital in Manchester has agreed to provide the care, which could save Ms Prout's life.
Welsh NHS bosses have agreed to pay £1,000 for an assessment, but are 'awaiting further clinical information' before reviewing her case.
The mother-of-two said: 'If I lived in England I'd be in hospital now.
'I've worked all my life and paid taxes to central government. Because I live in Wales I've been treated as a second-class citizen.
'You hear about a postcode lottery, with people not getting treatment because of where they live. I'm fighting this for them too.'

If they can stall her long enough it will all take care of itself.
But Americans in their right minds have guns. If I have stomach cancer and am refused treatment by my government, I have options to present to those making the decisions.
They will never be honest with you about refusing your treatment.
They’ll tell you all sorts of fairy stories until it’s too late for you to exercise those options.
In some countries, citizens with fatal diagnoses aren’t told of those at all.
All the way to England? Did someone sneak an ocean between Wales and England while I wasn't looking. According to the pre-Deluge Google map, it is 200 miles from Pembroke to Manchester, or about the same distance as it would take for me to drive to the Cleveland Clinic.

Corrupt politicians used to live in fear of every man (and woman) in the street.
That’s why they created gun control.
Wales is watching Scotland's vote and readying their own campaign.
With no oil and most of the Welsh coal mines closed down, they can't fare as well as Scotland.
I heard the NHS is much less restrictive in Scotland...
Kind of how within a few years living in a red state will getcha to the bottom of the waiting list.
That’s the point.
Yes, I know.
That’s the point of controlling any resource, be it energy, food, or healthcare -
those in power then get to grant or deny access based on “loyalty” to those in power.
I wonder how much it would cost to have insurance to cover needed treatment that is denied by the bureaucracy? Seems to me that there is a need for such a product. If the actuaries take a look and the premium for such “catastrophic coverage” is very high, then we know that the proffered health care is seriously limited and likely flawed.
Sad, but quite true.
What is needed is offshore medical insurance for major illness. Something your own govt cannot take away from you. Either it would pay for private care in your own country..and if that was illegal..then care overseas as a medical tourist.
There will always be an avenue for the rich and well connect to get the best of care. Just look at the Mayor of Toronto who is getting everything done quickly while others must wait in Canada.
JUST like the USA. The EXEMPT alone will soon have excellent care.
"At the foundation of our civil liberties lies
the principle that denies to government officials
an exceptional position before the law and which
subjects them to the same rules of conduct
that are commands to the citizen."
Justice Louis D. Brandeis
People already are going overseas to get stuff done now, it’s just that many don’t know they have that option to save a bunch of money compared to what it will cost here if their insurance company denies them coverage.
For the cost of a plane ticket you can save tens of thousands of dollars and get top notch care, if you have cash or a good line of credit of course.
