“DARE” [local Dobe rescue] does something very similar.
They scour shelters and lost and found ads, snatch up the dogs *even before they go to shelters* and charge insane “adoption fees” for the now “stray” Dobes.
Even the AKC and DPCA has disavowed them yet they continue to flourish.
Worse than all that, healthy, well cared for Dobes commonly deteriorate in their “shelter”, rapidly.
It’s a hustle.

I think I heard about this and love rescue groups, however; this is wrong. i side with the owner on this one. Some rescue groups, unfortunately, aren’t who they say are.

Apparently the owner did not register the chip.
*Most* of my chips, I made sure to register myself even though one vet claimed he did...but had not.
The last chip, another vet registered it instantly, which I discovered only after I tried to register it, myself.
Failing to double check the vet’s protocols should not be an excuse to have your dog stolen.
She needs to have the chipping vet verify ownership.
I have dealt with “breed rescues” and a lot of them are run by liberal do-gooders who think only *they* have the authority to decide who is good enough to own a dog.

Another case of “When Do Gooders Go Bad” which unfortunately they frequently do. My guess is that she is doing this for money or for the sense of power that this sort of thing gives her, probably both. The only upside is that this wacko did not go into government.
