California’s ‘Modern Family Act’ aims to bring family law into 21st century ("Evolving" Families)

California lawmakers will consider updating family law and parental rights to keep up with the evolving nature of families when they return from summer break.

Bitter, high-profile disputes have inspired legislators to modernize laws molded for “Leave it to Beaver”-era families. Jason Patric, star of “The Lost Boys,” has been seeking custody rights over a son he fathered through sperm donation. The children of radio personality Casey Kasem had been in a legal fight with their stepmother to visit their father in the last years of his life.

Supporters of these bills say such cases demonstrate that laws are lagging behind technology and social change. Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, a San Francisco Democrat and longtime gay rights advocate, said updating the laws is just one way for nontraditional families to gain acceptance.

“As a lawmaker, what you can accomplish is changing what’s in the law that’s being detrimental and dehumanizing,” Ammiano said.

Yes, evolving from the dinner table to the barnyard.

They try to mock the "Leave it to Beaver"-era laws, but you know what-- the world was pretty nice back then.

Oh, yes, but we didn’t have “diversity”, then. And we didn’t have “civil rights”.

But we did have a civil society.

Once upon a time.

And nobody told us that along with “civil rights”, we’d get the knock-out game, sky-rocketing crime rates, burgeoning prison systems, and heavily militarized police.

And nobody told us that along with “diversity” we would get a whole new set of diverse diseases, HIV, anti-biotic resistant strains of tuberculosis, polio, poxes, fifths disease, and all the other third-world illnesses. Coming soon will be ebola.

I guess it’s detrimental and dehumanizing not to allow two queers, and a consenting sheep or 12 year old child to form a “modern family”.

Yeah.

Legislating civility doesn’t work very well, does it?

Civility is an attitude that comes from the deepest beliefs of individuals. It once was to be found almost anywhere in this nation. Now it is in short supply, to the point that more and more laws are deemed necessary to require from those who, by nurture, are not inclined to give it. We have been inculcated in individual self-realization - no matter the consequences! - for so long that the welfare of others is counted as nothing in the mind too many.

Progressives, this is the course you have charted for the nation. And it isn’t going to work. You have sown the wind. Prepare to reap the whirlwind.

He has been a one man wrecking ball for California - much more so than Jerry Brown.
