The next Olympics to be awarded, a little more than a year from now, will be the 2022 Winter Games. Rather than going to the strongest bid, the games may end up going to the last city standinga long list of potential hosts have given up on their Olympic dreams because the whole thing is one huge, useless waste of money.
Yesterday, Krakow, Poland, officially withdrew its bid for the games, a day after a citywide referendum where 70 percent of voters came out against hosting the Olympics. "Krakow is closing its efforts to be the host of the 2022 Winter Games due to the low support for the idea among the residents," said mayor Jacek Majchrowski.

What about Detroit?
And Obama couldn’t give them a city.
0bama will no doubt get the games to Chicago.
Reading the bottom of the article the last two cities standing is the oil/gas driven despot with President for Life Nursultan Nazarbayev and once again the ChiComs. I’m surprised the ChiComs after spending reportedly around $50 billion US to host the Summer Games are willing to blow another $50 billion to host the Winter Games but hey they that nice piggy bank of a trillion or two of US Treasuries.
The Olympics are the last thing Detroit needs unless they planned on using existing venues which would be just fine.
The Winter Olympics are so highly specialized, that’s it’s hard to recoup the investment made in infrastructure. I mean, the US can do it, but that’s mainly because we have such a large domestic tourism economy that even a niche market can be profitable.
The Summer Olympics at least have a shot at breaking even (or better) if managed competently because so much of the infrastructure is near major population centers and many of the event venues can be converted to other sports, convention centers, and the like afterwards that can see solid use beyond the games themselves.
My choices:
1. Gary, IN
2. East St. Louis, IL
3. Oakland, CA
Let the world see our rich and diverse culture.
I’ve often thought that there should be permanent venues for the Olympics, and that the facilities be used as training centers between events.
The only venue location that makes any sense to me is to always hold the Olympics in the same place. Send them back to Greece.
That is because him and the mooch lied their asses off when they made their pitch for the Chicago Olympics. Mooch told a story about how she sat on her father lap when she watched Carl Lewis win his gold. She was 24, and her father had multiple sclerosis.
But this is the WINTER Olympics. If Chicago bid, they’d have to offer venues in WI or MI, but neither has Olympic level skiing so far as I know.
No those would be the host of the ‘Thugs games’ which includes the following sports: rioting and vandalism, knockout, car theft, murder and drug dealing.
And who would be buying the Olympics for Detroit?
The sad part is, that failing the Summer games bid, his Chicago Winter bid, if not Hawaii instead, WILL be the last one standing.
Yes, I'm half joking about both, Chicago being a fairly flat region, and Hawaii getting minimal snow, but since when did any practical and authentic reasoning ever apply to BHO?
Look at the hundreds of billions deliberately wasted by him to reward his cronies.
It will be a shovel ready project! Think how much capital can be redistributed by the corruption that goes with building ski slopes on flat land!
Next sporting organization that will have its comeuppance is the NCAA and high stake sports schools. This is what the football Unionization is about. A system that earns billions in TV revenue, pays coach exorbitant wages, but then doesn't feed its students enough for the caloric demands of a division I athlete.
I agree, I think having them permanently in Switzerland makes the most sense. Good central location, and a neutral country.
