25 Year Old Phoebe Could Be World’s Oldest Living Cat

When Phoebe’s human rescued her, she wasn’t expected to live for long because of her poor health, but Caroline took her in anyway along with her brother. Phoebe has way outlived what people expected of her. She will celebrate her 25th birthday next August, is in the process of being titled the world’s oldest living cat by the Guinness Book of Records.

I found my first cat, Tiger, as a tiny abandoned kitten in 1955, when I was 6, and she lived 24yrs until she died in her sleep, in 1979. She was a wonderful girl.

We got our cat Rocky when my daughter found him eating on a bag of Cheetos in a dumpster and brought him home. That was in 1990 or 1991. He’s a little hard of hearing but otherwise seems in good shape. He’s sitting up here on the desk watching me type this.

My folks had old Blackie, who lived to be 20. She just went into the woods one day and never came back.

My moggie Rascal did the same about 30 years ago. I still miss him.

We have a friend who says their kitty is 25. It certainly looks it, poor old thing! I doubt they could prove it for the record, though.

I have one who turns 19 any day now. Still does stairs, jumps up and down from the couch. Still bosses humans and other felines around. Not the dog (who is her best friend).

We have a Rocky too, he just turned 16 in February — he was a 24-pounder at one time but he’s thinned out a lot the past couple of years — he’s still a mix of feisty and sweet & loves food, esp. his treats (pretends to use the litter box whenever I am in the laundry room just to get a few). He gets around okay still, even tho’ he’s got a bit of arthritis.

My kitty, may she rest in peace, lived to be a little older than 25. It never occurred to me to check if she was the oldest on the planet at that time.

I think the oldest recorded cat age was 35...

I had to put my beloved Scooterpie down in January of this year. She was 19. However, her twin sister Snickerdoodle is in perfect health and curled up next to me as I type.

Once Phoebe’s birth certificate is verified, she will be the world’s oldest living cat by a margin of more than two months.

If they can verify this, I've got another birth certificate for them to look at.
