This just popped up on my puter screen. Go to the link for more details.
Buy a Mac.
Just click on ‘Don’t show this again’ and don’t worry about it. < /s >
I would take XP over Vista or 8 any day. I would take 95 or 98 over vista or 8 any day. They used to know how to make a mouse work and so much more.
Dell has the Win7 OS on a computer for ~$324. I'm just going to buy a new PC.
There are some older related articles posted on FR - search ‘windows xp support’.
That’s why both my desktop at home and my laptop runs Windows 7 Home Edition (Service Pack 1). In my humble opinion, the best version of Windows since Windows 2000 Professional.
Since a lot of medical devices are still running on XP, I’d say this is an Obama plot to kill the old folks.
The new Windows probably won’t run on an older machine so check out some versions of Linux before buying a new computer
Problem is many ATM machines still run XP.
Wacha gonna do about that, MS??
There are tens of thousands of medical instruments that still run XP. This means in a few weeks, they will no longer be considered HIPAA compliant and many medical facilities will not allow these devices to be used. Particularly the facilities getting federal reimbusements for medicare and medicaid patients. In many cases there are no upgrades available for these systems due to the way the code is written for a particular OS version. So they effectively become junk and medical facilities will be forced to spend big bucks to replace the equipment, if they can. There was an effort started by some medical groups to get a ruling on HIPAA restrictions until this gets sorted out, but I never heard more about it.
I didn’t install the patch that causes the popup.
‘Buy a Mac’. First, I don’t need a 2nd mortgage on the house. :<(((( Second, the programs I’ve written to record all prime time TV on my video cards would be useless. Are there any video cards that plug into the Mac?????????????
Lastly, I’ve only been on XP for the last 3 or 4 years. Stayed on 98 for ever and ever. I’ve had to use a W7 machine now and then. My measure of useability is Explorer. Without a major investment of relearning Explorer I can’t get any useful information in less than 10 minutes of clicking around. I finally gave up and install FreeAgent on those W7 machines that I have to use. If I have to do a major relearn on Explorer I assume the same must be for W7 in general. But of course I know its not that bad but it is really upsetting when the new release of Windows this or that ~!@#@#%$&$^&*%^*&*$%^@%$^$. Why in the h___ change the user interface to one of the most fundamental programs
????????
Its XP for the next year or two at the least.........
I thought I read almost every banks ATM runs on XP...
thats gonna leave a mark
I moved from XP to Ubuntu on my laptop about 3 months ago.
I like it. Faster than XP. Will run a Chrome browser on dial up connection speeds.
And it is free
But I like XP.
It will be an enormous business opportunity for some company.
There are lots of people who don't need 1 TB hard-drives and 8 GB of fricking memory.
Don’t worry about it. Switch to firefox for a browser, and set up your system with a new login id that you set to be a standard/limited account and do all of your work there except for actual times of rare system/application updates, add, removes. This latter action will eliminate any chance of badware invading your OS. In fact I recommend that strategy for ANY Windows OS, no matter how new.
XP will work just fine for as long as your old hardware holds out.
So my computer won’t update 5 times a day... Awesome. I can hardly wait.
I have two IBM laptops and three destops all of which use XP. The laptops are older ones, a T42 and a T60 and the desktops are 7 years old. Since almost 70 percent of ALL platforms are still using XP, Microsoft’s move really angers me.
I got the dialog box you mention to see if my desktop could handle Windows 8.1. I downloaded the thingy that checked my machine. It gave me an error message. The other machine is the same computer so I suppose I’d get the same error message. I’ve not checked the laptops but they are even older machines.
I do not want to buy new machines plus a new printer. Shifting to MAC is even more expensive plus buying new software.
Bill Gates has moved even lower on my list of not so favorite people.
I have another question. I have Service Pack 2 and SP3 files saved. If I wanted to install XP on a clean machine I wonder how one gets all the old patches? Will MS continue to provide access to those??
