[history]
I've watch this replacement for "The Weather Channel" on Directv and I'm NOT impressed.
They talk too slow and show too many photos, and NEVER get to the weather.
Their forecast models are not very accurate, and neither are their temperature forecast.
They're strictly third rate.

We dropped years ago both satellite company’s they kept raising their prices or changing stations, was paying more and enjoying it less, installed antenna and watching both cable or free TV for years now. Still get junk mail asking to try satellite again which goes into our round file.

Why are you still bothering to watch TV for the weather, waiting through commercials and blather before they get to the weather for the area you’re concerned about, instead of just looking up the weather on the Net?

I'm getting ROKU, even though I know little about it.
I'm doing it one step at a time, and on a budget with old TVs, so the ROKU equipment I need, has to serve both standard Def and High Def (in case I purchase a HD TV later).

In a few months, Accuweather will have their weather channel (which they were already planning) ready, and I would think they would market successfully to DirectTV.

The TV and the computer don't always serve my older parents who aren't computer literate.
And sometimes I'm just too tired to go to the computer to look it up.
But since the change, if I want thew local weather I have to go to the computer.
And being 30 miles away from a local small city, local TV reception is a real challenge, unless you put up a 40-foot lightening attractor, which isn't very conducive for electrical equipment, if you catch my drift.

Yeah, that's another problem with most weather channels.
When they have real weather to show us, the first thing they do is cover it up with their fat hands and bodies.
There should be a law preventing them from getting between the weather screen, which most of them have shrunk to about 1/3 of their total screen.
And now, if you don't have a 60 inch screen, you can't read the print on their weather unless you're standing within a few feet of the TV.
Some of us still have to live with a 32 inch screen or smaller.

ROKU is great!
We have cable Internet only, plus the ROKU. We subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime (Mrs BN is completing her degree & received a 1/2 price student discount!)
We spend a lot of time watching either “Industrial” (Woodworking, Auto magazines, Modern Marvels, etc.) videos or good Christian channels (Dallas Theological Seminary, Ravi Zacharias, Liberty University, David Jeremiah, Chuck Swindoll, etc) on YouTube.
Pandora is great & FREE for music on the ROKU. Smithsonian has a channel as do numerous other special interests.

Now that’s funny, but it doesn’t help you to know if you need to leave the water pipes barely running, to prevent them from freezing and bursting the pipes.

My old cell phone isn't any good at text messages.
But thanks. I'm sure some people will find this useful.
I just want a descent weather channel for when I'm at home and want to know what's going on, like "are my pipes going to freeze tonight", and "do I need to lock the livestock up in the barn tonight due to the coild".

"Why are you still bothering to watch TV for the weather, waiting through commercials and blather before they get to the weather for the area youre concerned about, instead of just looking up the weather on the Net?" EGGSactly Batman!
Its 2014! The Weather Channel is 1980's tech (Almost 35 years old)
Hell I got free weather apps on my computer, Kindle and phone and no commercials and GloBULL Warming propaganda to wade through.
Watching the Weather Channel on TV for weather forecasts with all the instant update weather tech at your fingertips is like using a newspaper to track stock prices.

A bit odd this, because I have found the Weather Channel service to be nearly worthless. Since we are Over-the-air only at home we hardly ever see the Weather Channel. We can get Weather Nation via WJRT in Flint, or Accuweather via WILX in Lansing.
Last week we were in Florida and watching the WC on the cable to help us determine when would be best to make the trip back to Michigan via which path.
WC spent more time on the Groundhog and the hype around the SuperBowl than it did on the Weather. In prime time they are just running some sort of documentaries instead of Weather.
WJRT in Flint has dropped Accuweather and gone with Weather Nation for their 12.3 channel, with the combination of Weather Nation for national weather, and WJRT for the local weather it is a very good combination.
The Accuweather on TV looks very dated compared to Weather Nation.
Weather Nation is a new service, give them time to grow.
WN and DirecTV are going to need to find out how to integrate Weather Nation and local weather.
