I tried Carniolans back in the late 90's. Nasty little Biatches if you get a dry spell wih no nectar. Any noise or vibration from a mower or tractor within 200' would cause them to sting you up pretty good. I found that odd because they were supposed to have a good temperment.

Best I have had is the Starline strains.

The screen containers for the bees are quite robust. The last ones I got were in a mesh bag in addition to the basic shipping container. Postal employees are amazingly gentle in handling these. They will call & let you know the bees are there as soon as they get off the truck.

Mary had a swarm of bees,
And they to save their lives,
Went every where that Mary went,
For Mary had the hives. . .

I’m down to 1 hive, at the moment. Putting out swarm traps soon. Put me on the ping list, if there is one. I have used the Buckfast bees from Weaver.

In the summers of 1990 and 1991, I was one of the Iowa State Honeybee inspectors. I studied under Dr. Norman Gary, the Hollywood Beekeeper, at University of California, Davis. Unfortunately I became hypersensitive to the stings and had to give it up.

The bees are so much fun. And chasing swarms is just like chasing tornadoes.

Best thing I had was a very long pole with a metal garbage can attached and a tree limb saw. You can hold the can up to the swarm and then cut the branch...Gottum.

Anyone with bee question....??

I guess if the box is marked “Live Bees” you don’t have to worry about somebody stealing it?

The smells of my honey house are so comforting. Wax, propolis, woodenware, crystalized residue in the tanks..........Heaven.

The bee, he is a busy soul,
He has no time for birth control.
And that is why, in times like these,
There are so many SOBs
