Singapore’s government has blocked access to the popular adultery website Ashley Madison amid a public outcry ahead of the company’s planned launch of a portal for the city-state.

The Media Development Authority, which regulates the Internet, said in a statement late Friday that it has blocked access to the Canada-based website because it is in “flagrant disregard of our family values and public morality.” …

I've spent some time in both Hong Kong and Singapore but am certainly no expert in either place. The two cities are very similar in many ways but quite different in one important way. They're both bustling, prosperous cities enjoying at least a degree of political and economic freedom but Singapore is *much* cleaner, much more orderly and more tightly regulated than is Hong Kong (as far as *I* could tell,at least).Everywhere you look you see signs saying things like "$100 fine for spitting"..."$100 fine for failure to use your seat belt" (I saw this one in every taxi I took). It's something of an authoritarian city...more so than Hong Kong.

On a side note, one of the first things I noticed upon arriving for my first visit was a notation on the landing card *and* signs in the Immigration Area saying "Singapore Law Mandates The Death Penalty For Drug Trafficers".And they *do* it,too....just check google.

As a result it's not surprising to me that Singapore would ban such a site...for better or for worse.

The first time I went to Singapore was in 1976 and I was advised on all of the above plus be sure that your hair is cut so it’s not over the ears or collar. (My hair as a bit long at the time.) Sure enough, at the airport was a barber ready to adjust any non-conforming hair styles.

I liked my trips to Singapore. The people, etc. are fantastic. Wouldn’t want to live there though.

How does an adultery web site make money? Or, are they just doing it to advance the cause of a self-absorbed lifestyle.

After they advertised in the superbowl, I saw a story about them. They put up photos and profiles of women who supposedly want an affair. Men are charged fees to communicate with these women. The story said the site was well over 90% men, paying fees.
Even the owner said something to the effect that it was the case.

I don’t how an adultery site makes money - perhaps by helping to pair up cheaters in a nondescript manner - but is that really the point?
I don’t know all of their motives for wanting to support such a ban but I applaud it. Would to God we still had such convictions and more importantly, understood why they are necessary. Evil advances when good men do nothing - remember? When we don’t want to get involved, when we don’t want to “put our morality on someone else” - a crock of a statement if there ever was one - Obama and the dems are certainly putting their “morality” on us now. Look at our nation in the 50’s and where it is today. It is our moral indifference and desire to be tolerant and hip and not prudes that has produced the climate we have in our nation today. Remember the other ridiculous mantra, “You can’t legislate morality!” Talk about pure ignorance. Morality is about the only thing you can legislate. A STOP sign is a moral statement. It says, “We value life, property, harmony.” It says, “We’re trying to love our neighbor as ourselves.” Is it always convenient to stop? No, but we know things just work better that way. Today we are legislating immorality and it’s destroying our nation and enslaving us. Make no mistake, our indifference and cavalier attitude toward God’s laws and his created order and authority have produced the only fruit possible from such choices. Unrighteousness leads to stupidity and enslavement. You lose your ability to discern evil - and see its consequences. God allows you to go deeper and deeper into it until you either repent and seek his forgiveness and life or it destroys you and you are forever separated from everything good in the universe. Guess which path we’re on? Our slide started somewhere in the past. Did you and I contribute to it or did we try to stop it? And more importantly for today… what will we do now? We need a true revival in our nation more than an improved economy.

Getting an inside job at Ashley Madison could be an excellent chance to make a little extra cash blackmailing their customers.

Adultery aside, for that reason I cannot see why any sane person would sign up for this service.

They recently started spamming my email about six times a day. How to make it stop?

That’s how I found out about them. I believe at the bottom of their emails there is a cancellation part to click on. After I did this cancellation thing, I got no more emails.
