A name makes all the difference in the fight between Ford and Toyota over who has the top-selling car in the world.
Ford on Wednesday claimed that crown for its Focus compact during the first half of the year, based on registration data gathered by the R.L. Polk & Co. research firm.
But Toyota disputes Fords leadership. The Japanese automaker has said it sold a Corolla hatchback under the Matrix name, and it sells cars that are nearly identical to the Corolla under different names in countries outside the U.S.

Focus vs. Corolla? Who cares. Both cars are built and sold all over the world with production plants in Europe, North and South America and Japan.
If they want to argue about sales volume here in the US, I would bet Ford Trucks our sell them both.
Compact cars are the ones championed by the left, of course. Ones that the left elite will never drive, preferring to plant their “carbon footprint” all over the posteriors of the “masses” . . .
I champion personal choice. The reason these cars are popular is because they are affordable, reliable and inexpensive to operate. They could emit piles of dog poo and still be popular for those reasons.
BTW, compact cars aren’t championed by the left (they stopped that over a decade ago). Overpriced “alternative” cars are their pick.
Alternative-fuel cars are “innerparty”. Compacts are still for the proles . . .
Libs still like compacts if they're shaped like toasters. What's that all about?
My focus is comfortable and stylish! It gets as high as 50 mpg on the hwy. and avg 34.08 overall. It’s a great car.
Pity they got rid of the wagon.
I’m looking for an extra car, and one of the used car dealers by me has an emerald green Focus wagon. Wonder if I should bother . . .
All the while it is a sweet ride, under the skin it is the most luxurious vehicle I ever owned and I think it would fly down the road at 100 all day without a whimper.
I think the Focus is a great car. If I were in the market for a new one, I'd definitely look at it. This is the sort of thing I was referring to.

These vehicles Nissan Cube)look like something Doctor Seuss would have come up with.
Those, the XB, and the Element. There is a certain stereotype which comes to mind.
