Visitors browsing through the YouTube channel of the pianist Valentina Lisitsa can watch her in hundreds of videos. There are live webcams of her practicing at her home in North Carolina, long blonde hair tossing and brow furrowed in concentration as she reads through new works. There she is in a red gown playing Schumanns Traumerei at a concert in Seoul, and recording Rachmaninoffs Concerto No. 3 at the Abbey Road Studios in London.
Ms. Lisitsa, 43, resurrected a completely stalled career through YouTube.

Nope, just different point-of-view
Valentina is great! Watching her long, artistic finger dance on the keys is almost as soothing as the music.

Personally, video is normally an obstacle to classical tracks regardless of the performers’ appearance.
Seeing the bottom photo, I half expect a frumpy piano teacher to pop out of the wings, whack her on the knuckles with a ruler and say “Posture!”
For Chopin, I found that this fine lady had YouTube videos of her playing the etudes, and I was able to link to them with explanatory essays.
YouTube has been a godsend in this effort.
I understand James Ehnes' issues, however. I count Jimmy and his wife Kate as two good friends, and I tend to side with Jimmy in issues like this. A performer wants perfection to be recorded. It's the nature of the business.
Bump for this evening with a glass of wine. Thanks!
