A parent in Towson, Md., was arrested Thursday night at a public forum after vocally expressing his concerns about the Baltimore County School District's plan to use Common Core standards in its curriculum.

Robert Small, a concerned father, was forcefully removed from the meeting by a police officer after he interrupted Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance during the question-and-answer portion of the forum.

The meeting apparently didn't allow parents to stand up and ask questions or comment. Parents and other attendants were instead asked to write their questions on a piece of paper and officials would read them.

Small was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer and faces a $2,500 fine and up to 10 years in prison. He was also charged with disturbing a school operation, which carries an additional $2,500 and up to six months in jail.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Not having good manners and following the rules can be time consuming and expensive. I'm wondering if his kids demonstrate the same total lack of self discipline while at school. The fruit does not fall far from the tree.

Ahhh...the old “write your questions on paper and maybe we’ll answer it” routine. Worthless hacks.

Obamaville... if you don’t like it, shut up or go to jail. Re-education camps are just around the corner.

HOME SCHOOL
Common Core is bovine excrement.......it is no different than asking an elephant to climb a tree and when they can not, telling them they are stupid.

I see, the cop was “just following orders.”

I’m seeing a “police officer” getting increasingly aggressive and hostile to a perfectly polite and non confrontational citizen exercising his constitutional rights to petition his government.

And being roughed up in the process by a thug with badge.

All documented on film.

The judge is not going to like this, nor is the School Board or the the thug (if he is off duty he is personally responsible for his actions) going to the like sitting through depositions and court dates defending themselves against the law suit this guy should rightfully file.

Seems reasonable for a Soviet Republic ... up to 10 years in the Gulag though seems a little stiff.

Dr. Dance added insult to injury by screening, omitting, and editing parents’ questions.

Questions from the audience of about 160 people, which consisted of parents, PTA members, teachers, and school administrators, were submitted on cards prior to and during the 1-1/2 hour meeting for the Q&A period which lasted about 40 minutes.

Dr. Dance chose which questions to read or omit, opting for teacher and school administrator or softball questions. But he also altered the wording of the questions themselves.

My submitted question:
“Although Common Core was adopted by MDE three years ago, in exchange for a quarter Billion dollar federal incentive grant through Race To The Top which is conditioned upon adherence to Common Core, parents weren’t informed until after its implementation. The MDE has not valued nor requested parental input. Instead, there was no transparency or even the courtesy of notifying parents much less consulting them. No wonder parents are up in arms. You’ve awakening the Mama Bear. Why haven’t parents across the state heard of Common Core until the month of its implementation?”

What Dr. Dance read:
“As a parent, I was a little disappointed that I’m just starting to hear so much information around the Common Core state standard. I want to be informed as most parents across our state. As a parent, how can I learn more information around Common Core?”

LOL! Didn’t take as long as I thought it would for the cop haters to jump in the mix and blame the police. Love it.

The thug with the badge wrote in the police report wrote that the gentleman exercising his constitutional right to petition his government pushed said thug and to violent with his thugness.

Said thug is obviously the recipient of a common core standard public education where the lesson plan about the recent incorporation of video and sound recording capabilities into cell phones was written in cursive

Yes the standard “assaulting a police officer” charge that they throw at civilians when the cop was in the wrong in the first place. Throw in a “disturbing a school operation” (WTF) charge and you get a nice double trouble charge.

They’ll offer him a disturbing the peace plea bargain, and he’ll probably take it instead of risking a jury finding him guilty. 1 or 2 year probation, no time served, and the underling prosecutor gets to pad his or her conviction rate.

He’ll still pay court costs, lawyer fees, and criminal charges on his record causeing problems with background checks.

All for speaking his mind and questioning the .gov educational system.

First Amendment to the US Constitution:

Congress shall make no law . . . abridging . . . the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Article 13 of the Maryland Constitution:

That every man hath a right to petition the Legislature for the redress of grievances in a peaceable and orderly manner.
