Proposed legislation may outlaw paying for sex in France while giving prostitutes who are victims of sexual violence easier access to legal support. The preliminary text does not enjoy universal support.
We are going to turn the law on its head, said Socialist Member of Parliament Maud Olivier, who authored a report that will be the basis of the bill. Prostitutes are victims and should not be treated like criminals.
The law is intended to reduce violence towards prostitutes and to get it into the general mindset that paying for sexual services is not acceptable. We need to destroy the idea that prostitution is a happy trade, she said, adding that of the estimated 40,000 sex workers in France, 80 percent are women and 90 percent are immigrants.

The French outlawed marriage?
France got around to banning incest in 2010 or so.
Catching up to civilization are they?
Sounds like the prostitutes won the election and are going to get revenge on their customers.
Not a good business plan.
Wow, that’s sure going to cut into their Way Expensive Flowers and Unbelievably Incredibly Expensive Dinners business.
Isn’t that “paying for sex?”
Tomorrow, half of the female French workforce will be fired.
Weird way to phrase things.
They want to shame the customer, but not the hooker.
S&M?
Sacre Bleu, Quelle est suivant ?
Free sex?
Marriage is paying for sex; on an installment plan.
The problem here is that even if the majority of prostitutes start out as child or teenage victims, they turn into adults who just might make false accusations to turn a buck...or a Franc, or a Euro or whatever. Especially the percentage which uses intoxication to deal with the life they are in.
And if there is no penalty for the prostitute then there is also no leverage to force them into rehabilitave treatment.
Experementation with laws exactly paralleling this have produced dismal results in Sweden, where child brothels in Muslim no police zones have mushroomed even as adult prostitution amongst the native population decreased.
There are always simple, easy to understand, wrong answers to life’s problems and this is a prime example.
We all pay for sex, in one way or another.
Woo Hoo
“....paying for sexual services is not acceptable.”
.
Tell that to the prostitutes.
Well there goes half the French “gross” domestic product.
They should criminalize community property and alimony.
This is great, what I have always wanted. Put the Johns in jail.
