Soft drinks linked to aggression in young children

All those Pepsis and Cokes could be making a monster out of your little bundle of joy.

New research shows kids who regularly drink soft drinks are more aggressive.

Researchers from Columbia University, the University of Vermont and Harvard studied data on 3,000 five-year-old children from 20 U.S. cities. Their mothers reported the frequency of soft drink consumption and completed a behavioural assessment survey.

Nearly half of the children (43%) drink at least one serving of soft drink a day, and 4% drink four or more.

Even after taking into account other factors, such as family violence, kids who drink soft drinks showed increased aggressive behaviour.

And the more soda, the more aggressive the kid.

Children who drink more than four soft drinks a day were found to be twice as likely to destroy other people's things, get into fights and physically attack people.

The study will be published in Journal of Pediatrics.

Well, I know this is true because when my kids do not get a soda they get really mad.

I’m thinking that perhaps the more aggressive kids are more aggressive in their pursuit of soda.

Almost all kids today drink soda, not all kids are aggressive Are all kids that drink soda aggressive? Are any kids that do not drink soda less aggessive? Something wrong with the logic of this study.

Soda and sugary drinks will rot your teeth and do internal damage. But, if junk food companies employee millions. So, you get rotting teeth and diabetes, but you make up by providing livelihood for millions. Let the market decide. A lot of well educated and healthy people stay away from junk, so it might turn out good for the human species in the long run.

When we were growing up my mom limited us to one soda per day, Which is why I loved to stay with my grandmother during the summer as she let us have as many 6oz Cokes as we wanted!

So what was going on in the 40’s, 50’s, 60, 70’s and 80’s where was the children’s aggression with soda then? I don’t think it’s soda I think it the sad state of families and society today. These studies always look for something other than reality to for a reason why our current society behaves as it does.

Taking this together with the dishwasher Pod toddler death just reinforces my personal belief that the is nothing than more BS that is pushing an agenda. I believe neither story taken at face value and this particular horsecrap only makes me believe that my instincts concerning the other story are directly on target.

LOL That’s a giant steaming load of BS. I loved Sprite/7Up as a kid and I was really quiet.

I think lack of appropriate whacking of the butt cheeks with a rod is another cause.

I know that isn’t done anymore, but it is Scriptural.

When I was a young kid, we had cokes but if I got too aggressive, my father also got aggressive with a switch cut from a tree. He cured my aggression very quickly. I bet that same solution would work just as well now.

It doesn’t take an Einstein to know that a Mountain Dew will get a kid climbing the walls

I was just talking last night to a friend who has done day-care work for 25 years, and she was remarking that little boys placed in daycare seem so much more aggressive and violent than they used to be. I wonder if this is a connection. She thought the issue was that their parents allowed them to watch hyperstimulating entertainment, like violent movies with extreme graphics and special effects of a kind we didn’t have 25 years ago.

I’m getting a bit disgusted with all of these “scientific studies”.

I guess all of us unedumacated yahoos are supposed to roll over to the great scientific god and be impressed enough to change our lives because we just too stooped to do otherwise?
