After Tiger Woods won his second Players Championship on Sunday and Sergio Garcia claimed he had been the "victim" in his flap with Woods over the weekend, a Players marshal revealed that Woods's account of what happened on the second hole in the third round when he was paired with Garcia was not true and said the world's top-ranked golfer lacked character.
In the rain-shortened third round of The Players Championship last weekend, Garcia was frustrated that he hit a poor approach shot on the second hole and blamed it on the commotion Woods caused when he pulled a five-wood out of his bag before Garcia finished hitting his shot. Woods claimed the marshals told him Garcia had already hit his ball.
According to Sports Illustrated, "the marshals were surprised" by Woods's comments.
Gary Anderson, one of the marshals, told Sports Illustrated, He didnt ask us nothing, and we didnt say nothing. Were told not to talk to the players.
John North, "the chief marshal for the first three holes" who "stood over Woodss ball to protect it from the throng and was five feet away when Woods played his shot," also said the marshals did not say anything to Woods.
Nothing was said to us and we certainly said nothing to him, North said. I was disappointed to hear him make those remarks. Were there to help the players and enhance the experience of the fans. He was saying what was good for him. It lacked character.
According to Sports Illustrated, North is a graduate of the Naval Academy, served in Vietnam, and is a FedEx pilot who "donates his round on the Stadium course for being a volunteer to the Wounded Warriors project."

(Barf!!)
Being a Vietnam combat vet myself, I have no respect for people who denigrate those who put on the uniform.
I have no place for scum that hide behind a uniform. It makes the decent vets look bad. They don’t deserve that.
I almost forgot. Thank you for your sacrifice.
I agree - this ia not a case of picking sides. There’s only one side - character-wise they both suck.
Did the club pull come during the Garcia address/swing? Or was it after the swing? Does anyone know?
Golfers are a bunch of pansies and I seriously question it’s status as a “sport”. The only sport I played as a kid that required complete silence was performed in a locked bathroom with the current issue of Playboy magazine.
I can't answer for 'freedomfiter2' but I would say that being a US Army Lieutenant Colonel Vietnam combat vet and a Green Beret isnt evidence of character.
Character isn't what you've accomplished. Character is what you do when you think no one is looking.
Tiger's father may have been a fine gentleman of extraordinary character. Then again, he may not have been. It means nothing when trying to gauge Tiger's character. Genealogy means nothing.
Tiger's actions in this tournament AND the last one...as well as all the lying and cheating on his wife...has proven Tiger to be a low life and a reprobate.
I can’t help myself sometimes. :)
I'd either say Wittenburg is a liar or because of something akin to a mancrush on a legend, he allowed himself to ‘willfully embellish’ where the ball crossed the hazard. Especially because of his adamant defense of Tiger (”he's definitely great...”) Judge Smails would've been proud.
As an USAF veteran, I can tell you that neither rank or unit is evidence of character. It’s something you come into the service with or without. Trust me.
Character assassination, America’s favorite pasttime

I’d say it runs neck and neck with denial.
Actually, Johnny Miller said he thought it was a bad drop. Tiger is now resorting to cheating and poor sportsmanship to win. I'll cheer for ABT...anybody but tiger
Well stated.
I do, because I could have written the same post, word for word.
I assume you are referring to Tiger's drop on 14 when he hit it into the water on Sunday. The rules state the player must determine where the ball crossed the line to the hazard, AND his playing partner has to agree with the ball drop or the playing partner is ALSO penalized.
Could you imagine if Tiger and Sergio were playing together on Sunday? Sergio could have really embarassed Tiger by not agreeing with his ball drop.
