Well, I’ve seen her (SR-71) up close and personal.
But what caught my eye was the P-38 .. because my dad moved us to CA from NY in order to work at General Dynamics - and help build parts for the P-38 and other aircraft.
The P-38 is an historic aricraft.
That bird has always been one of my favorites. And to think, built and flown in 1962-63. Just imagine what we have in the air now, fifty years later!

Awesome!! Never knew any of this existed — I thought that birds from the Skunk Works were just flown out of Burbank. This was hugely hi-tech for the 1960s. Thanks for posting this ... passing around to all my av buddies!

It’s my understanding that the real secret of Area 51 is that they have contaminated the ground so badly with all the exotic fuel spills that it would be an EPA-nightmare if the truth ever got out.
I have read some articles in the Las Vegas Review Journal of doctors who were treating some of the workers out there for “unknown maladies” raising Hell because the government wouldn’t tell them what chemicals their patients had been exposed to.
