I am looking for someone with access to a full size Civil War Cannon, who would be able and willing to bring it to a gathering of old, dried up Artillerymen in the Evansville Area in June.
Would prefer a field gun in the 10 lbs class, but if you have something different let me know.

Contact the Single Action Shooting Society. I know that there have been cannons of this size at national events.

Just FYI—there is an awesome Revolutionary War Cannon for sale on e-bay @ $12,500. Just get on e-bay and type REVOLUTIONARY WAR in your search and scroll down. It’s awesome, but I just can’t spare $12K at this time. You know how it is-—the wife might get a little cranky about it.

My last cannon fell out of the canoe and was lost in a terrible mishap!

Years ago I was at a CW reenactment where a cannon was firing rounds at plastic 55 gallon drums of water.
The nailed everyone at about 120 yards.

How’d you get the cannon in the canoe? A kayak, maybe. But a canoe?

I used to keep one in my living room. Not a really big one, 2.75" bore.
When I towed it to events on a little trailer no one ever tailgated me!

Call the editor of the Camp Chase Gazette and get the name of a Civil War Artillery Group near you and pay them to come to your event. They will have the addresses of those that have anything from a James 6 pounder, Ordnance Rifle, 12 Pound Napoleon, or even a little 12 pound mountain howitzer. If you wish to buy one they will have the locations of the cannon makers also.

You know, a couple of days ago a friend and I were talking. There used to be a couple of cannons on almost every green in New England Ny and Penn IIRC. N
None anymore. What happened to them?

The cannons were so valuable that many cities sold them to collectors that paid a premium for them. I owned a bronze 1846 heavy 12 pounder at one time and they now sell for $100K+ now. That kind of money will keep a city’s largess paid for a short time.

Would prefer a field gun in the 10 lbs class, but if you have something different let me know. You familiar with the Henry Knox Society? There's a Chapter in Vincennes in [big surprise here!] Knox County. 307-629-0269, or I can track down a e-mail address for you.
Barney [J. Paul Barnett] from Barney's Cannons passed away in 2010, but despite the distance, would have been a likely bet- he loved to show of the Big Iron to kids, and was a frequent contributor to renditions of the 1812 Overture. And, since I believe in backup plans, I'll try to track down some of his old crew. watch this space or FReepmail me.
