Its a scoreboard to them and a win just puts them closer to their goal be it political office of a judgeship or an appointment. Justice is secondary here and else where as well i imagine. Here for certain.

In US law there is such a thing as being an accessory to murder after the fact.
Its not accessory to murder. She would have to knowlingly and willingly dispose of Rudy Guede’s crime. But obstruction of an investigation or making false statements, probably. I believe her mistatements over Patrick Lumbumba could be considered for that, even if she barely understood the Italian language (they should have had an interpreter there, during their 10 pm to 6 pm 3rd world interrogation of her). In fact I believe she was convicted of making false statements and has not bothered to contest that because her time in prison cover time served for that lesser crime.

There is no limit in Italian law. No matter how many times you’re found innocent the prosecutors can keep coming back to try you again. Looks like a perfect place for Mike Nifong to restart his career.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I attended Catholic schools where half the kids celebrated St. Paddy's Day (the Irish) and the other half St. Joseph's (the Italians). It was always a big deal because those two days fell during Lent and yet, depending upon your last name, you had one day when you could eat, drink, and be merry. In all my years, I have never once heard someone of Irish extraction referred to as a wop. It was always my understanding that wop was short for guappo, which I think was used in Naples to mean thug.

How do you "dispose of" a crime?
The normal definition of accessory after the fact is someone who helps conceal a crime, fails to fully report it or aids the criminal in concealing it.
By pointing a finger at Lumumba, she enabled Guede to get the drop on the police and flee the country.
Also, an overnight interrogation is hardly a "third world" affair.
Few first world police investigations do without them.
THe matter of having an interpreter is more on point. The police did not understand American idioms.
Trying to stay on point about the fact that she did not that commit murder; nor was she an accomplice (which is what she is being charged with).

She was not afforded the opportunity to have a lawyer. Her boyfriend changed his story to i don’t know if she was there when i slept. This was no case at all. Even when all the evidence pointed to one person they kept after her and her boyfriend. Prosecutors don’t like to lose. Thats all the reason they need to continue a non case.

The controversy surrounding the evidence eventually led the court to order an investigation, and in July 2011 that investigation concluded that police mishandled or violated procedure in 54 separate instances.
This was damning not only for the police, but for prosecutor Giuliano Mignini, who took over the investigation of the Kercher murder at an early stage. Mignini’s lurid theory of the case was that a Kercher was murdered as part of a sex-fueled satanic ritual, with Knox, Sollecito and another man, Rudy Guede, as participants. The evidence strongly pointed to Guede a murder suspect, but Mignini cut Guede a deal to secure his testimony against Knox and Sollecito. Guede was ultimately sentenced to 16 years in prison, compared to a quarter-century for Knox and Sollecito.
The Knox case was not the first time Mignini has advanced satanic theories in murder cases, or been mired in charges of prosecutorial misconduct. Mignini was a latecomer in the investigation of the famous Monster of Florence case (which served as inspiration for the character Hannibal Lecter), and advanced the wild theory that a coterie of as many as 20 people were involved a Satanic cult that was responsible for the Monster’s murders. In response to criticism of his handling of the case, Mignini arrested and accused Italian journalist Mario Spezi of murder, and threatened American writer Douglas Preston as well, as detailed in Preston and Spezi’s book The Monster of Florence.
Between convicting Knox and the 2011 appeal, Guiliano Mignini was convicted for abuse of authority during the Monster of Florence case and sentenced to 16 months in jail.
I had always heard they came over from the Milan area. But I don't know exactly where. People with their last name are quite plentiful in the region.
I've traced them as far as the 1890 census, living in Chicago. One of these days, I should get on it again. I suppose those passenger manifests would be the next step.

Btw, I just wanted to mention that even though I believe the two were innocent of murder and just ignorant potheads, your theory that they tried to cover tracks for Guede does seem very plausible. It would be totally within the confines of probable cause to go ahead and charge them with that. But to my knowledge, I dont think the prosecution is concerned with that.
Sadly, I believe you are right. Unless of course she voted (D) in the last election...
