God bless Mr. Dantley. His behavior is exemplary and completely honorable. It is easy to belittle someone who has made foolish decisions and squandered enviable wealth and opportunities. Mr. Dantley does not seem to be complaining or blaming anyone else. He lives a quiet life and is entitled to privacy and the dignity that anyone else who earns his own living is.

And don’t you even think about saying anything nasty about Sister Mary Edwards! I never once saw a nun strike a child in the classroom.

Of course you didn’t.
YOU were one of ‘them’...crossing guard/hall monitor etc.
And you are right ...DON’t even think of saying something..If ‘they’ thought you were thinking ‘bad thoughts’ you got whacked also (course in the 50’s whacked was a form of ‘love tap’ to get your attention).

Worse one I ‘ever’ got was Sister Mary..... went up alongside my head, made the mistake of mentioning it at home AND we all know (SISTER is NEVER WRONG) so got it again and next day at school was greeted with “We mustn’t carry tales home from school” so , I got it again.

That was my 1st 3 way or 3 fer ........<: <: <:

I see you got my point. But I think you misapprehend Sister Mary Edwards. She recognized a shy, lonely, short boy, from one of the poorest families in a poor parish, and did him a favor he will never forget.

Yes, but I didn’t know about his medical problems, until I looked it up. I was only 4 when he had his MVP season, and he was out of baseball when I was friends with his daughter.

Amen - I would have thought that this was the only legitimate conservative response. Why would folks belittle someone like this? It’s beyond me.

I'm going to assume a different "favor he will never forget" from what current teachers will do for a boy.

She made me a crossing guard sergeant, and always showed me kindness, as she showed kindness to all the other children in her classroom. When a 23 year old teacher has an affair with a 15 year old boy she is merely gratifying her own perverse appetites and not doing anyone a favor.

When I ran into her at a book fair in my senior year in college and mentioned the prestigious engineering school I would be attending in the fall, she reached across the table full of books and gave me a peck on the cheek, if that satisfies your prurient curiosity.

Sorry, wasn’t/isn’t meant to disparage Sister Mary Edwards.

That scenario sounds very familiar.
‘They’ rewarded this short, skinny, baby faced kid by having me ‘skip’ 2nd grade....being an Oct baby, that made me about 2 years younger than my classmates by the time we all reached 8 grade (well earlier but it ‘counted’ then) especially going to the ‘Govt School’ in 10th grade and the only thing that kept the ‘idiots’ away was to excel in sports - being the class ‘cut up’ helped to a point BUT it did instigate a lot of ‘Could do better if applied oneself more’ messages etc etc...
