EXCLUSIVE: Steubenville football coach may face charges for failing to report rape after he 'told two star players he'd "make it go away"'
The coach to the two footballers convicted in the Ohio rape trial may face charges for his failure to report the crime committed by his two star players.
MailOnline has learned that Head Coach Reno Saccoccia's conduct in the scandal that has overwhelmed the town of Steubenville will be scrutinized as part of a Grand Jury investigation.
State Attorney General Mike DeWine yesterday announced his intention to convene a Grand Jury on April 15 to further investigate the case that led to the convictions of quarterback Trent Mays, 17, and wide receiver Ma'lik Richmond, 16.

MailOnline understands that interviews will be sought with all 19 of Steubenville High School's 'Big Red' team coaches. Texts read out in court revealed Coach Saccoccia, 63, was aware of an allegation of rape but did not act other than to assure his players that he could 'make it go away.'
In a series of incriminating texts sent from Mays to his victim on Monday 13 August he wrote: 'Reno just called my house and said we raped you.
Good.
Hope the girl sues the school district as well as every kids’ family that stood by and did nothing.
Post-Christian America.
“Make it go away” - it would be hilarious if it turns out that it’s Coach that goes away.
Planned Parenthood makes rapes of minors just “go away” without reporting them to the police.
Why is the media so fixated on this case but not what is known about a corrupt national organization that receives federal funding?
The liberal war on women continues.
Oh wait, texts & videos? ..uh oh!@
Seems like half the town should be on trial! Then sell the other half to the arabs!
The coach should be in prison.
That would have to include tampering with evidence, asking them to lie to investigators and other things.
There are 19 coaches?
Hmmmm, so a coach can face charges for not reporting a rape, what a concept!
Have to agree 100%.
I can't see this having happened 50 years ago.
Organized rape and a organized cover up would not have happened at my high school.
We weren't angels by no means, but we weren't stinking little savages.
This is the city which was in the news last year because the city dropped its seal after an atheist group sued over the fact that it included a cross (it showed the skyline including the cross over the chapel at Franciscan University).
50 year ago, the girl is the one who would “go away”, to “live with an aunt”, or such. So I guess we’ve come a little way since then. The real problem is that 50 years ago, only the really daring or perverse would have ever dared try something like this, not it’s a weekly occurrence, to be captured in pics and video by what most would consider to be “regular kids”.
These guys are all in trouble. Reporting sexual crimes against minors is required by law.
Just look at the Penn State fiasco. How many guys were fired, fined, and sued for not reporting? Even the President of the University.
And I hope the grand jury indicts the coach and every one of those participants/spectators who did nothing.
If it turns out that the coach and other adults had knowledge and didn’t act on it, I hope the Ohio High School Sports Association (or whatever it’s called) says no football for 5 years. Maybe then the residents of this town can quit depending on 16 and 17 year-old boys to fulfill their sense of self-worth as a community. Besides, I keep hearing how down - and - out this town is. How the hell can they afford 19 football coaches?
well that is just weird
Perhaps the Sophomore Inside Linebackers coach is a volunteer position.
Even weirder when you realize it’s not even in the biggest division in Ohio sports. HS football is pretty much the only thing going on in Steubenville, other than the Franciscan University there.
Fine, this sick town needs a wakeup call.
