Stranger helps reunite IE man with dog that was taken away

It's rare that a grown man cries in public, but when Dave Thomas thought he was going to lose his dog, he couldn’t stop the tears. The San Bernardino, Calif., resident had been arrested after failing to appear in court for two traffic violations, and his best friend, Buzz Lightyear, was impounded. Thomas was told he needed $400 to get the dog back — half of it by the following Wednesday — or the adoption process would begin. It was Friday, and he had $6 in his pocket. That's when Maria Sanchez, a regular visitor to the shelter, saw Thomas in tears outside Buzz's cage and snapped this photo. She put the pic online and almost instantly, strangers donated the money to get Buzz out and have him neutered, which the shelter required. On Tuesday morning, the two were reunited. [Source]

Dave you are low-life idiot. You do not deserve the love of that dog.

I don’t understand how the shelter can *require* the neutering. That doesn’t sound right.

the other thing i don't get is, if the dog is not adopted out, why not just give the dog back to his previous owner instead of putting him down? and in the first place, why did he lose his dog just because he was arrested?

I think de-balling male dogs is inhumane, disfiguring and barbaric. This changes the make up of the dog completely, as hormones are affected. Neutering the female doesn’t alter the female, she is still female.

i’m still trying to understand how failing to appear for 2 traffic tickets results in the death of someone’s dog

how’s that work??

hell, why not tell the father of 5 if you don’t pay your excise fees by monday, we’ll kill a kid every day until you do. wtf

Similar situation happened with one of our volunteers two years ago.

A homeless and alcoholic Vietnam vet needed treatment but refused to go because no one would take his German shepherd. The volunteer got a kennel to board the dog free of charge, stored his vehicle at her business, and paid his vehicle registration fees.

Once he got out of the VA hospital, took his dog and vehicle and drove off, barely thanking the volunteer and kennel for their help. Never heard from him again.

Our volunteer also contributed to get the dog out of the SB shelter.

> Neutering the female doesn’t alter the female, she is still female.<

Do a search on spaying and urinary incontinence. Spaying a female changes a long-haired dog’s coat texture. This coat change is in no way harmful, but it does happen.

However, spay-neuter does have its place, since pet overpopulation puts a strain on municipal finances. And, nobody wants to see dogs euthanized for lack of good homes.

From the 2nd article:

"Dave has called to inform them that I am keeping the money raised for his dog. I have transferred $842.07 into my bank to reimburse myself for the shelter fees, vet and PetSmart shopping spree that I put onto my personal credit card. I had a discussion regarding the remainder of the donations and how he would like to spend them. I asked if he had any bills that were due at the time. I told him that every dime that was donated would go to him and Buzz, but that I would not be giving him the cash. I explained to him that the money that was donated was a blessing for him, I wanted to be sure that we respected that and used the donations responsibly. He sat next to me and nodded his head, Not one response, question or concern. She then revealed she was going to return the money to those who donated or else give it to an animal shelter. I have been reimbursed for all expense to rescue Buzz from the high kill San Bernardino City Shelter and reunite him with his owner Dave Thomas,' she added. There are donations leftover. The donations will NOT go to Dave after the stunt he has pulled. If you still want Dave to have your donation, I will have to ask you to send it to him personally. No good deed goes unpunished, right?"

How exactly is she being punished? The way I understand it, He just wants ALL the money that was donated for him and his dog.

Vasectomies would accomplish the same purpose and the dogs could still have their fun. Maybe they are more expensive.

This reminds me of the little Rascals episode where Petey gets thrown into the pound and Weezer is crying to get him out and this rich lady comes and says “Oh little boy what is the matter?” And Weezer tells her what happened and he says it will cost 2 dollars to get him out. “2 dollars? Is that all?” LOL!

Is that a serious questiong? Because he is suing her to get it and accusing her of Grand Larceny, Slander and Embezzlement. Now she needs a lawyer, and it will cost her far more than the money she collected.
