My dad was sentenced to death today. 81 years old, going through chemo and the insurance company refuses to pay for the pet scan.
It has begun.
I am so sorry for you and your father.
Not medically necessary when you’re 81 years old. Have to save money for an illegal to get boob implants.
Start reading about natural cures in the internet.
Good Lord. PET scans aren’t that expensive, are they? It’s not major surgery. Any insurance co. could afford it.
I’m sorry about your father.
Check out the Huntsman Cancer Center in Utah. They’ve had a tradition of accepting patients with limited ability to pay.
I’m so sorry.
Best wishes for your father and you.
My father had colon cancer. He is on a bag now. He skipped chemo because he’d read doctors say they wouldn’t use chemo.
He’s cancer free, now—much to the surprise of his doctor.
BUT, others benefit from chemo, seemingly.
Life’s a crapshoot—none of us get out of it alive.
Always remember...we have a better place to go, and I don’t think we’ll see Bath-House Barry there.
I am sorry to hear about your Dad.
If you think it is necessary, pay for the test out of pocket. Shop around the imaging centers in your area and usually you will get a sizable discount for cash.
Not getting a PET scan during chemo is by no means a death sentence. This type of hyperbole does not help.
My dad is 85 and also going through chemo. I keep waiting for him to tell me his insurance company will no longer pay. I know it’s coming and I dread it.
One of the members of the car club I belong to has already received his death sentence. He needs a new pacemaker and was told by his insurance company that “an independent panel” has determined he can’t be covered by the insurance. He’s retired and doesn’t have the money to pay for it himself.
It was all I could do to keep from bursting in tears when he told me. The fear in his eyes was heartbreaking.
I hit “post” too quickly.
I meant to add that your post was brilliant. :-)
