I’m rather partial to my Beretta 1200FP.
Nothing can beat Saiga 12 or Vepr 12 in this class. Standard tactical layout is pretty nice. An ultimate home defense solution.
IMO, the best one I have seen is the Remington Nitromag tactical. Hands down. It’s a tried and true platform.
My 2nd choice would be the Mossberg 500 choice with the integrated light.

The Mossberg 500 Rolling Thunder has a can on the end of it they call a "barrel stabalizer" that weighs it down more. But, that is longer than the regular 500 tactical. It (500 t) surprisingly doesn't jump as much as you'd think. I've missed a clay bird and been able to rack, swing, and get it on the 2nd shot......that's at a small target moving away. You could certainly pump a shell of 12 ga Federal .00 into one perp, rack on the recoil and hit the second. I would have to test them together, but I wold almost expect to get less barrel rise onthe pump than a semi auto. And, you can add the fold over stock on the Mossberg. This way you could have the best of both worlds..the Mossberg is pretty quick on the rack. It all comes down to personal preferance, most likely scenario, and the balance in the pocketbook.
LOL! Well, since you are breaking in, use the shotgun to blow the locks or the hinges, and the remaining rounds to finish the job. If you are defending, it’s a piece a cake!
Ooooooor, how about simply removing the door to your daughter’s room?
