What the hell was Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan thinking on Sunday afternoon?
Coach Shanahan demonstrated how to play Russian Roulette with an organizations future by opting not to take quarterback Robert Griffin III out of the game when it was apparent as early as the end of the first quarter that his star QB reaggravated a significant knee injury sustained weeks ago

Hope my Browns felt better about walking away from Kelly and his college vision of a mobile quarterback after what happened to a very talented young man today. In the NFL, quarterbacks just can’t take 5-7 solid hits from even a run of the mill 325 lb defensive lineman or a 255 lb linebacker. I know RG hurt himself without getting hit on that play but quick, can anyone name a running quarterback with longevity other than a Tarkenton or Douglas or Cunningham.
Lot of good that line of thinking did for Washington. Now they can think about next season anyway because they just blew the playoffs for this year.
It was much like the Vikings decision with Christian Ponder.
The result was the same, they both lost this weekend, but Ponder should be fine next season. RGIII, may never be the same.
Is that photo autographed by Joe? Wow.
No, they were defeated by a superior opponent.
EITHER A Brady, Manning, Schaub, Flacco, Rodgers or Matt Ryan (all pocket guys) will win the super bowl.
There was talk of the condition of the grass field in FedEx Field. I think it played a part in exacerbating Griffin's lame knee condition.
If the game had been played in Seahawk's CenturyLink Field, we would have seen a less torn up grass. However, you would have also seen a higher score for the Seahawks, who benefit from the 12th man.
I’m going to bet on Denver early. Makes it all more interesting.
I live right outside DC - the fans who were at the game went ape shit when they were interviewed right after the game. The consensus was something like this:
“You don’t race a three-legged horse in the Kentucky Derby.”
They said it was plain for EVERYONE to see that [after he got injured in the 1st quarter] he couldn’t run with any authority side to side - much less make any kind of cuts on his runs.
They also said that even if he stayed in the pocket and not run the rest of the game, his right leg [his plant leg] was wobbling so much that he could not accurately throw. Thus, all the overthrows, throws behind the receivers, and leading too far in front of them ...
What do you expect from the Washington Racist Nicknames?
Heh.
Go Seahawks, right into the NFC championship game where the Packers can properly whomp them and make up for the free win given by the replacement officials.
You mean the game the Seahawks won after the refs attempted to give it to GB with a horrible PI call ... which is the only reason the game was close at the end anyways. Then in that same game they made a call which was later CONFIRMED BY THE LEAGUE as the correct call which all the Cheezeheads say cost them the game ... is THAT the free win you are referring to?
Can Green Bay get past San Francisco this Saturday, January 12th? With the game in San Francisco, I predict not.
This wasn't just poor coaching, but pure self-centeredness. Shanahan put his career above Griffin's health and, ironically, damaged both. This was one of the ugliest coaching decisions that I've ever witnessed.
Yeah, that s*cked. Oh well, at least we can root heartily against the Seahawks next week when they play Hubby’s team, the Falcons.
And my team, the Ravens, stay alive. Daughty’s G’ints and s-i-l’s Skins are now finished for this year.
But I bought the grandbaby a Ravens onesie, so he’s with me for now!
All the folks sitting at the bar at my VFW agreed...pull RG3 and let Cousins at least finish the first half. Then they could re-evaluate. Otherwise it starts to look like Apache Management. In the Pentagon in the 70-80s we used to refer to that management style when talking about leaders and Action Officers...find a good horse and ride it until it drops...then go find another good horse.
RG3 addressed this issue in the post game press conference. He said that it was his decision to play and stay in the game. Shanihan took him out of the game after his knee buckled. RG said he would have got back in the game but Shanihan said no. Wash defense could not stop Lynch and that was the deciding factor.
How are you liking Bruuuuuuuuuuce? I'm a WVU Mountaineers fan and will be rooting for you guys this post season because of Bruce, and I'm a Steelers fan, go figure! :)
