MALIBU (CBSLA.com) The son of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been found dead in Malibu.
Sheriffs Homicide Detectives were sent to an apartment in the 22600 block of Pacific Coast Highway around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on a welfare check, authorities said.
KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports when deputies arrived, they found the body of 32-year-old Scott Sterling inside the unit.
Sheriffs Homicide and Los Angeles County Coroners personnel at this time believe that Sterling died of an apparent drug overdose, Deputy Guillermina Saldaña said.
An autopsy is pending. No additional details were released.
In 1999, Sterling was accused of shooting and injuring his 19-year-old childhood friend. No charges were filed in the incident.
Scott, 31, was not involved with the Clippers organization other than being the son of the owner.
Anyone with information about the death is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Departments Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
