There are close to 100 recognized domestic cat breeds and every last one of them descended from wildcats. Some are recognizable just by looking at them. For instance, weve all heard of Persian, Siamese and Burmese cats. Other cats, however, aren't as recognizable, and not nearly as common. Here are some adorable photos of rare cat breeds who may not have crossed your path!

I had a Crazy Shirts tee with that cartoon many years ago. Love it.

Looks like my Lizzy.. or “Miss Cat” when she’s in a mood...
To: humblegunner
Seems like they're always in some kind of “mood”. Except my taken in, formerly abused Mimi. She's always happy.
Skittish and afraid, but loves to me ON me.

Every time I look at that picture, I bust out laughing. Stop answering me! Old ladies can die laughing, you know!
To: TheOldLady
Dying laughing is my second choice for the way I want to go. (My first choice would get me banned.)

I agree that dying laughing is a great way to go, but I think I’d like your way more too.

Out of all those, I think I like the Ocicat the best. But I’m also quite happy with the pound cats and found cats who let me live in their house.

Thanks for the post! The only new breed of cat that I’ve seen that I didn’t care for is the Munchkin. The Munchkin came from a random mutation, and has short stubby legs. It can’t jump like a normal cat. I think any change that results in a cat basically no longer being a cat is not beneficial. Seems too sad for the animal. :o(
