Today I found out what the difference is between a Democrat and a Republican.
Well, sometime this past summer, someone told the water police that we watered our lawn on a day that wasn't part of the water schedule. Since we were in drought condition 2, we are only supposed to water on certain days at certain times.
When we appeared before the prosecuter, he said that since we were observed watering our lawn and that a water cop signed an affidavit, we had the choice of pleading guilty and paying the fine, or pleading innocent and coming back for a trial. So why go down there in the first place?
For traffic tickets, on the ticket you can plead whatever and if you plead innocent, you get something in the mail when you have to come in for your trial. For the water police, you are not afforded that opportunity. You either pay the fine and take the probation, or when you waste a morning to plead innocent, they then schedule you for a court date.
So Buzz, what is up with this Democrat/Republican thing. Well, it was us homeowners that were paying the fines. We stood in line, b*tched and moaned while the people behind the glass, sat around, drank coffee and got to us at their convenience. 20 people on line, 1 window open, and 5 people behind the glass doing nothing. Someone on line said to me, "we are paying for them to drink coffee." I said we are also paying for them to retire with a nice pension while it is costing us money standing on line. Two more people on line joined the conversation and soon 20 people were complaining.
At that point I understood. We were all homeowners, we all pay property taxes, water bills and other utilities and we are giving up our freedom and money so the people behind the glass can live a good life when they retire.
My wife saw I was steaming and said we cannot fight it, so why bother? Why bother indeed.
Like lemmings we stood there and let the government take our hard earned money without even a fight. There are things we can do like overburden the system and plead innocent and force our accusers to show up in court. Which they won't because most of this is a money grab and they know we will give in.
Welcome to the Machine.
It is what it is, and your time is valuable to you, so I would have probable done the same thing.
Anyway you look at it, we’re screwed............
Sad, but true.
Our solution was to move away from California.
Resistance is futile. Armed resistance has promise.

Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been? It’s alright we know where you been.
“Whiskey’s for drinkin’. Water’s for fightin’ over.”
If the Democrats could figure a way to measure the air that you use, they would tax it, too.
Politics used to be about selecting the right person for a job. The right person was the candidate who would get the most effective and efficient use out of the taxpayer’s hard-earned dollar. Is that what the Democrats run on these days? They don’t even pretend anymore.

I live in Texas!!!
Any thread with a Pink Floyd reference is a good thread. Pink Floyd make the Beatles look like Milli Vanilli!
Maybe you’ll get to go for the bonus round - a fine from the HOA for letting your grass turn to straw!
Not sure if you want the attention - but this sounds like a good story for the local news to put on TV. Would be great to catch those busy public servants on camera having such fun while we’re paying their salary. And benefits. And pension. And, etc.
Agreed. I’ve listened to them since I was 16 years old.
They are my favorite band of all time.

Been there, got a t-shirt. That’s what prompted me to put in sod and water that area. The rest I hand watered or let go to crap.
I was perfectly content with my nearly dead St. Augustine. The HOA wasn’t.
HOA’s are evil... I think there is or should be an HOA’s Are Evil ping list. :p
It’s alright we know where you’ve been.
Totally, I started liking them when I was 30, had the Wall in 1990 but really go into them 8 years ago. Been to Roger Waters concerts in May this year in SF and in 2010 in Anaheim. Pink Floyd is the best band.
My favorite song fomr thim is Wish You Were Here.
Following that Echoes full length version, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, and Mother.
A particular favorite of mine from Mr. Waters is Gunner’s Dream.
The best are what you mentioned. I would add, Shine on you Crazy diamonds the full lenght version. And Atom Heart mother. But Echoes is one of those “WOW” songs. And Confortably Numb of course has the best Guitar Solo ever.
Yep, Shine On is just fantastic and in a way is very similar to Atom Mother and Echoes, where the song is sort of a meandering comet streaming through the universe rising and falling to the different phases of the music and licks from David’s guitar.
Well at least that is how I envisioned it in my mind back many years ago when I was somewhat less than sober.
I remember the first time I ever heard Echoes and how completely blown away I was by it. it was sheer poetry of both lyrics and music, and the way the early guitar solo builds in that song is just stunning to me.
There is nothing in music anywhere that I know of that is anything even close to what these guys achieved. Absolutely unique.
That is how I felt about echoes and the way they do the guitar with the shreiking and sounds. I told my buddy wish i still smoked pot and listen once and while.
