I thought that is what they are doing now with the hearings.

Waste of time. We no longer live in a representative republic. The balance of power has shifted, and we are ruled by the will of the current occupant of the oval office. It’s not the United States that we once knew.
I have never seen or heard of authorities saying, “Oh my God, here’s a petition with 25,000 names on it. We’d better completely change our policy, our philosophic orientation, and our desire to protect our careers. Let’s do what the petition says.”
When has a petition ever changed something as big as this? Really?
