FARMINGTON, UT, November 15, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) The ACLU has filed a lawsuit to force a Utah school district to keep a lesbian advocacy book on elementary school library shelves.
In the Davis School District in Utah, children as young as kindergarten age can check out a homosexual propaganda book called In My Mothers House, about three adopted kids and their lesbian mothers, if their parents sign a permission slip.
The book was removed from shelves after another Windridge mother complained to school officials when her kindergartner brought it home. It is presently kept behind the counter.
This minor obstacle motivated the ACLU to seeking to force the school district to put the book back on its library shelves, making it available to all children without restriction.
The only person participating in the class action lawsuit is Tina Weber, whose children are enrolled at Windridge Elementary School in the district, the school at the center of the controversy over the book.
In Our Mothers House was added to libraries in five of the districts 50 elementary schools after administrators learned that a Windridge Elementary student was being raised by lesbians.
After a kindergarten student brought it home, a group of concerned parents brought a petition to the school asking that the book be removed.
A seven-member parent-teacher committee decided that the book would remain in library collections, but should be kept behind the counter instead of on the shelves. They said the book did not comply with state law barring homosexual advocacy in school curriculum.
The legal director for the ACLUs Utah chapter told Reuters that Weber read the story together with her 6-year-old daughter.
Tina Weber said in a statement that, while other parents have the right to limit what their children read, they should not have any influence over what library books are available to others.
I dont believe its for anybody else to tell me how to raise my family, Weber said. I would just hope to see the book get back on the shelf so all children have access to it.
Davis School District spokesperson Chris Williams told Reuters that the district stands behind its decision to require students to have parental permission to check out the book.
We still feel very comfortable with the process we followed, which is laid out in district policy, Williams said. We still believe that at no time did we take parents out of the drivers seat.

Gotta wonder - what if people just started saying, “no”?
“Heather has two Mommies. Boy, is Heather screwed up.”
And of course followed by a lawsuit to have them display books by author C.S. Lewis in .......
Brave New World
How long before we add sex toys to the toy boxes, as was done in some Swiss schools....
The teacher I co-taught with last year was a huge Patricia Polacco fan. She was always reading her books to the kids. This teacher is also supposedly a big Christian. I wonder if she knows about the latest from Polacco.
The American Library Association was taken over by the militant homosexual agenda, just the way the American Psychological Association was. These previously respected professions have gone downhill ever since as panderers to those out to destroy the Judaeo-Christian value system.
Congratulations for Utah having a state law forbidding this kind of material as part of a child’s education. It is amazing that we tolerate such a small percentage of our population trying to go around state law and force their beliefs and policies on the rest of us. If this is such a big deal, get it on the ballot and have the people of the state vote to change the law. Otherwise, let the offended individual purchase that book for their child and they can read it over and over and over.
Ooops! I checked out the book and my dog ate it!
What a wonderful idea, that the ACLU supports parents having control over what their children are taught, and required to read.. What about the other parents that don't want their children being indoctrinated in the liberal Global Warming fraud, and homosexual tolerance movement, or Sex ed to kindergarteners, or the Obamamaia, or, or, or..... jus sayin.. :)
Couldn’t agree more that librarians and Psychs. [add in teachers and professors] have been taken over by the libs.!
My advice to cure this problem is to avoid the lawyers and just check out the stupid book and “forget” to return it. Once you get the damn attorneys involved you’re sunk.
Man, I hate queers.
BTW...I hear there's this bridge for sale in Brooklyn.....
Polacco, the author of the book in question.
I’m confused. The Winbridge mother was offended when her kindergartener brought the book home yet the article says the library required a signed permission slip to check out the book. Something is not quite right here.
Heather has two Mommies”
I love pointing that sort of thing out. It keeps religion out of it, but still points up the idiocy of Leftist dogma. Ties them in knots.
