The absolutely disastrous past week America had prompts the pick for this week's feature. For a little levity(in both senses of the word), the film that introduced flubber(flying rubber) to our popular culture, the Disney sci-fi comedy classic, "The Absent-Minded Professor". One of the best of the Disney studio's live action films made when Walt was still with us. Absolutely the best part of the film can be found at 1:32:16-1:33:06, especially 1:32:44 to 1:32:55.
I saw that when it first came out then again a few weeks ago.
It is a very good movie, entertaining and completely unbelievable but they don’t expect it to be believable, they made it funny.
That’s a fun movie! We’ve got it in our DVD library. At the moment we’re watching another fun one... “To Catch a Thief”.
Indeed. What’s your favorite scene in the film?
Sidenote: I believe both Walt Disney and Fred MacMurray were conservative Republicans, rare for Hollywood.
Not sure I have a favorite but the model T going around the white house was good. Also the villain, owner of the “auld lang sine” loan company bouncing higher and higher was funny.
I saw this in the spring of ‘61, when it first came out.
So did I. We’re dating ourselves here.
That’s a good one too. When my niece was 5 years old, she saw the film and figured out who the true villain in TCAT was long before it was revealed at the end. I was very proud of her for that.
That’s hilarious. Especially when the football team has to tackle him to get him to stop bouncing.
Sidenote: Keenan Wynn who played the villainous Alonzo Hawk not only revived his character for the 1963 sequel “Son of Flubber” but also for the 1974 Disney comedy “Herbie Rides Again”. So he got to battle both Flubber and the Love Bug!
I too have read somewhere that McMurray was conservative. Not certain about that but am pretty sure.
Also think he and Reagan were friends.
I tried to watch the recent version of “Flubber” but it was so boring I almost dozed off.
